Im surprised nobody's commented on this yet, I'm only about halfway through the chapters but thoroughly enjoying it so far.
At first I was all "oh gee, how predictable a dark red pony all about killing, all thats missing is batpony wings or fangs... 3edgey5me" but actually it works surprisingly well and is rather well written.
As I said, really enjoying it so far and looking forward to finishing it.

5607386 What alicorn OC? Sanguine is a pegasus. Twilight became an alicorn at the end of FiM season 3, thus the note in the story description about this being set during season 4.
5607439 I'd say Rarity-as-Palpatine is a crossover that needs to be written, but I suspect someone has. (Though I view Celestia as kind of a heroic Palpatine, with Twilight as her Vader.)
5607712 Thanks! I have some ideas for side stories - but those are side stories, to be published separately. I wanted to get this out as a complete unit. (There were some late-story ideas that wouldn't have been possible if I hadn't been able to go back and tweak things.)

Rarity may not have the centuries of experience that Celestia has, but she knows the basics of plotting and has some social insight. If there is a manipulator resident in Ponyville, it's her. (And Diamond Tiara.) I recall commenting to my prereaders that I needed reasons to spread things out, lest Rarity and Pinkie Pie make mincemeat of Sanguine's troubles.
