5670871 I don't mind it if it's for a good reason (Unavoidable/Not Prime showing a martyr complex.) that doesn't have any plot holes, or if it's tastefully lampshaded.
So since Galvatron and Optimus Prime are both around at the same time and this is stated to be G1 cartoon continuity I assume this is Post-Hate Plague. I know that a lot of people interpreted that Galvatron got some of his sanity back since he stands down and withdraws after being purified by the Matrix. A somewhat rational Galvatron is a much more credible threat given how much magical oomph Equestria is packing. On the other servo a still totally bugnuts Galvy has so much potential for hilarity.

I'm a bit confused by the continuity here. Does this story follow the continuity of one of the Transformers comics instead of the cartoon show?

I've been using a rather loose take on G1 Cartoon Continuity- sometime vaguely post 'The Return of Optimus Prime.' Technically, Bumblebee should be Goldbug at this point, but I'm fudging it because 'Bee is more recognizable.

Galvatron... I doubt even your armor's gonna last against Celestia if/when she cuts loose.
I know that this is supposed to be a different continuity than the Transformers cartoon, hence why we have Bumblebee instead of Goldbug, but it really bugs me that Optimus calls this a new low when I'd say Megatron/Galvatron have done things far lower, such as kidnapping dozens of humans and making them brain-washed slaves/ meat shields, and pretending to surrender and using an Autobot as a shield to shoot Optimus repeatedly.

You've got a point- I was just in a vaguely 80's ish kind of mood as I was writing this, so it seemed like a fitting line. I might go tweak it later.
I gotta agree with 5949114 here. I'm fairly certain a lot of people were outright killed during the Decepticons' rampages throughout the series, too.
Also, Celestia winning that argument was just odd, since she steamrolled over Prime yet I also agree with her. Meh. I loved Laserbeak knocking her out. Brought a dark chuckle to me. :p
I get that this story is supposed to feel like a G1 cartoon episode and is paced as such. Even then though it feels like things are happening too fast with character interactions and development coming across as token and rushed.
If there's a sequel maybe it could be slower paced with more focus on pony-autobot interactions.

Admittedly, cyclopean can mean massive in stature, I think a different word should be used since it seems to indicate that Trypticon has only one eye when that's not the case. The animators of the original series just consistently mess up colouring the eyes, and in Starscream's Ghost and other episodes, they state Trypticon has eyes.
Eh, he got beat every time in the cartoon. Trypticon's a big pushover. :p
