I very much enjoyed this short story. Although I haven't read much fanfiction here yet, I can tell you're one of the good authors! The way you describe the setting, Limestone's internal conflict and buried aspirations is phenomenal. You give great personal insight into the Pie family as well. I felt a real sense novelist's narrative while reading. You, good sir, keep it up!

A decent read. Pretty good pathos.

Beautiful story. I think Limestone would actually do really well as a soldier or police officer, even though it creates conflict with her job on the rock farm. You did great describing the conflict. Keep up the excellent work!

I agree. The Army would be the first (and best) place I could imagine her in. Though I suppose she'd make for a decent cop as well.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it! ^^

Thanks, it really means a lot to me ^_^

Thank you so much! I've always admired those who pay close attention to details and background info in their stories, so this has been my #1 ambition ever since I started writing, and hearing this from you really made my day. Thank you, really!
Also, welcome to Fimfiction! Enjoy your stay, and let me know if you need any help getting started.

A sense of duty is an odd thing and, sometimes, happiness can be found in the most unprepossessing of places and lifestyles. I think that Limestone would benefit talking to Applejack about a certain little filly who ran away to Manehattan.

That aside... Maybe the time has come for the Pies to acknowledge that some things are inevitable and hire some hooves to help on the farm.

7084583 That ... actually sounds pretty wise. I never noticed AJ and Limestone (in this story, anyway) had so many similiarities :o

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to comment! I hope you enjoyed the story!

I just came upon this story after doing a search for Limestone Pie fics. I think she is an intriguing personality, certainly more than the one dimensional grump so many take her for. I mean...yes, that's part of her personality, but there must be **reasons** for it. I wish there were more fics about her and would even like to see her visit Pinkie in Ponyville to just get a gander at how she acts off the farm.

This story is truly heartbreaking. Limestone is in a fix and there doesn't seem to be any way out of it. In a way it reminds me of the Jimmy Stewart character in It's a Wonderful Life. Everyone else got to go out into the big wide world but poor Jimmy was stuck in Bedford Falls thanks to that old savings and loan.

Furthermore, as you pointed out, with Pinkie permanently out of the picture, Maud gone at least until she completes her studies, Marble being a little whisp of a thing, and the parents growing older, it's as if Limestone's had all the choices taken away from her.

Thank you for this wonderful story and this look inside the mind of Limestone Pie. I look forward to more like it!

One minor quibble: Isn't Limestone, canonically, the oldest of the sisters?

Hey, thanks for this intense review!

I agree that there must be more behind Limestone's character than what has been portrayed in the show so far - I'm sure she has some more interesting sides to her, and as far as I'm concerned this story is just one of many (good!) attempts seen here on Fimfiction to delve deeper into her character.

Personally I've never seen It's a Wonderful Life, but from what I can tell the concept of 'everybody is leaving to see the big, wide world and X has to stay behind for Y reasons' can be found in quite a lot of books and movies - this story was just an attempt to apply it to the Pie family.

As for the Pie Sisters' ages: as far as I know there is no canonical statement as to who is the oldest/youngest of them all. It is said that Marble is younger than Pinkie (and I think it was mentioned in Maud's debut-episode that she's Pinkie's older sister), but as far as I know there has been no official statement about Limestone's age - her character simply makes her appear older than Pinkie/Marble and younger than Maud to me, but that's just my opinion.

Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to write all this. It's comments like yours that keep me writing ^^

Also there will be a sequel coming soon™ so you might want to keep an eye out for that.

Wow man... quite an interesting tale you've woven here for us all to read, very interesting.
I feel kinda bad for Limestone, but then again... that is her duty to eventually take over if Marble does leave the farm, leaving her alone while her sisters are out doing whatever they want in the world.

Mmm... nice job with Limestone, nice job.

Heya, thanks a lot! :D
In case you haven't seen it yet, I've written a sequel set in a 'what if'-scenario in which Limestone actually ends up leaving and moving to Manehattan, but as far as I'm concerned, this story is how it's going to be, with her staying and Marble leaving.
But then again, I guess every reader has their own 'canon', so yeah... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hehehe, I read the sequel, it was quite nice and I enjoyed it.
And yeah, everyone has their own canon.

So nice job all around!
