Sunset Shimmer and Fluttershy - not the couple that their friends would have predicted, but a couple none the less.

At least, for now.

I dunno. I think it works pretty well as it is. Put it in the contest, I say.

I opted to include a different story (No Charm In The Second Time) instead.

Glad you still shared it here, I can see how it would have made a good contest entry, although I know that feeling of starting strong and then just fizzling, wondering where a story should go.
That said, I actually liked how this one ended. It was a bit abrupt, sure, but ultimately satisfying, and a very real emotion of accidentally pushing someone away because you don't know the right words to say, or what to do.

I quite liked this. The theme of trying to find someone to blame worked well, as did the Fluttershy/Wallflower chemistry. Still, I can see what you mean. While the quiet slide into oblivion is thematically very appropriate for a relationship that ends in a whimper, it still just kind of slumps along. That said, a very well done quiet tragedy.

Ah SunShyne, such an underused pairing, and such a gutpunch use of it here. I can see what you mean in the author’s notes — I do wonder if it might have felt stronger had Sunset limited herself to just the one or two accidental memories, and obsessed over the meaning — but as is, it’s an appropriately rough look at a relationship declining through no one’s fault.
