Life can be tough when work takes you far, far away. It can be harder when ponies you care about don't get the chance to stay in touch, even when they try to—and even when they have good reasons for not being able to write back.

But finally, Applejack's getting an explanation. Finally, she's getting the truth straight from the horse's mouth, as it were.

Even if the truth hurts.

This was written for Shaslan as a part of Jinglemas 2020! For more information about Jinglemas, checkout our group!

I was more than a little nervous writing this, honestly—I haven't taken a crack at Appledash before, honestly—but I do hope Shaslan likes it.

All of my thanks to Flashgen for his help.

And once again, I really, really recommend looking into Jinglemas if you haven't given it a shot yet! It's a wonderful time, trust me, and I'm not totally biased on the matter. :p

Well, that was a dollar cooster of emotions. I’m guessing you were going for themes, if not of ptsd, getting old and tired?

What I wanted was to show was that beginnings don't always come from conventional catalysts; sometimes, it takes a big shake-up in your life to make you consider your priorities and be willing to put a hoof forward. Not being coy about one's feelings and being willing to take a concrete step courage takes a very different sort of courage than what RD's job entailed, but it's an important sort of courage nonetheless and shouldn't be discounted.

This was so fun to read! I love your explanation for why Rainbow wears that jacket. Stories where AJ and Rainbow get together later in life are rare, but I really love this idea. Thank you so much for this!

Hello, a review for your story has been posted. I hope you find it helpful. :raritywink:

This was surprisingly heavy and the implications are troubling. While yes, it was a 'nice' story (in regards to shipping and writing), I can't help but think about the state this world is in, and all the things that had to go awry so it could reach said state. It's scary.
A well-crafted story nonetheless.

Thank you.
