On the Sliding Scale Of Cynicism Vs. Idealism, I like to think of myself as being idyllically cynical. (Patreon, Ko-Fi.)

That the prior genius plan failed isn't her fault. Chrysalis can only think in brilliance, so how is she supposed to anticipate what the moronic ponies might come up with? So now there's some kind of magical law called the Doctrine Of Signatures, which in this context means that if the Bearers have something from her, they can use it as a channel to ward her off? Well, two can play at that game. All she has to do is tap into her diminished minion reserves and send someone out to collect all of their signatures. And once she has the complete set to funnel her own magic through, it's vengeance time.

It's a brilliant plan.

So naturally, she's going to make it rely on an idiot.

What a lovely story! Multiple flavors of humor, suspense, and a funny ending.

Poor Canthus.

He had the required traits. He followed the assignment, even if he really didn't know what it was.
Gotta feel bad for that bug.

...in brown which had been placed using the far end of a long stick,

Damn, Fluttershy...that was just...mean...

That was a beautiful bait-and-switch right there, one that completely took me by surprise.

Amazing work, and thank you for the much-needed laugh.

"...what's reading?"

:rainbowlaugh:

Ah. Chrysalis may be content to keep beating herself against the closed window that is Equestria, but her subordinates have other thoughts on the matter. Which is, of course, heresy.

Heh. Psychic paper does seem within the changeling wheelhouse, though making it work for anyone who looks at it would asking a lot even for Chrysalis.

She glanced towards the corner where she kept the old stolen clock, permanently set to Surface Time.

The question, of course, is whether her genius can comprehend the idiocy of needing to wind clockwork...

I'd never considered Dash and variant card printings in the same thought before, but if the Wonderbolts ever do introduce Booster Fun, I can only hope she buys singles.

"Sing," she quickly told him. "You're home. It's over. Sing."

This might almost seem like compassion if I didn't suspect Chrysalis had gotten her fill of Equestrian for the day.

Fantastic work all around. Your changeling stories are always delightful, especially when Chryssy gets involved. As bright as a bonfire, that one, and just as clever.

She knew herself to be the most canny, quick-witted, astute sapient on the planet, because she knew a lot of things and whatever such a brilliant mind decided to tell itself was obviously going to be true.

I think she's confusing ego for intelligence more than a little here. :trollestia:

She had truly infinite patience

Now that I can believe, or else surely Chrysalis would've given up on all of the other members of her hive and just gone solo years ago. :rainbowlaugh:

...he was okay. He'd been told that there might be a dragon at the first stop, or the second.

Well, that tells me where the second stop will be. :raritywink:

She moved past him.

Then she took a deep breath and held it.

*suppressed childish giggles* Wouldn't have expected that from Flutters, more RD or AJ (particularly AJ), but... :rainbowlaugh:

You're never going to be invited to anything I host, I'll kick you out if you show up, and I hope it makes you miserable.

Ouch, that's harsh coming from Pinkie!

Well, Rainbow at least upheld the letter of Twilight's instructions--that is all things she wouldn't normally associate with herself. :trollestia:

Truthfully, Chryssi's plan wasn't all that bad in theory, she just, as usual, thoroughly underestimated what would actually be needed so to pull it off without a hitch. As well as forgetting that Twilight would've recognized the scheme pretty much immediately. But I'd like to think she would've had maybe slightly better success if she could've either done it herself or sent an actual pro and experienced 'ling to do it, because I think Canthus was figured out for what he really was pretty much immediately due to his inexperience at...everything...and of course that wrecked the plan from that moment forwards.

Still, Canthus did the best he could with the tools and instructions given him--it wasn't his fault Chryssi failed to foresee some of these obvious problems! :rainbowlaugh:

Meanie-meanie dunderhead.
And you're stupid too.

Savage. :rainbowlaugh:

Hah! Is this canon to the Triptych 'verse (or any of the previously-established spin-off 'verses)?

There's another bit of wisdom she has yet to learn: smart people don't go boasting about how smart they are.

aw, you beat me to it!
I prepared explosive runes this morning.

I realise my thoughts must be too foolish for such a brilliant mind as Chrysalis's to deign to hear, but I still dare to voice them:

If you order a servant to do exactly as you say without thinking and they end up doing exactly as you say without thinking,

then you have no one but yourself to blame.

Sees you soons!

I really love how you tell things in third person but they are still very clearly from a character's POV in your fics. Your character voices are great

Ok, Vaarsavius.:twistnerd:

For once, I would wish to know about the other hives and their Queen's perception of Chrysalis supreme genius mind.
