Rarity loves Applejack, she really does. She loves her as much as she is able. But always in the dark attic of her heart, there is a bit of Rainbow left. Rainbow, dead by surprise attack, lost in a plot to kill the elements. Rainbow who she loved. Applejack does her best, but still the emptiness lingers.

(A Part of the Songverse, a continuity of fics I have centered around Rarity and Dash. This is non-canonical, but related. The events described and remembered come mostly from Where the Sun is Silent and it's sequel, Catch For Us the Little Foxes, but I think it can be enjoyed by itself. Yay Rarijack)

Sad story is sad.

I don't like sad Rarity, why is it so goooooood??????
It's not fair :raritydespair:

2077901 If I'm writing her

Rarity is sad

thems the breaks

Trixie is pretty sure "Felled" isn't a word.

2077926 It's archaic, but regardless, changed.

if it weren’t for socks

They're like lingerie for ponies. I approve of sock-canon.

I know Twilight’s been missing him while he works during the harvest, but it’s been nice seeing him more often

and TwiMac? 2/2 so far, friendo!

Feels were had. Another wonderful piece! Your prose is complex, without ever coming off as purple, or needlessly wordy. Congrats on another great addition!

:fluttercry::fluttercry: sadness now fills my now sad soul. I like this piece, I a sad man with sad little approve of the sad and feels conveyed in this sad piece.:fluttercry::fluttercry:

I love the songverse tales. The very idea that this might be the future of that canon feels me with dread. I love Rarijack, those two characters work so well together, and I think in the context of this story they both love(d) Rainbow. So I am conflicted. I want more of this, the story of Rarity and Applejack as they build love in the wake of tragety, but I also want more RariDash, the mismatched couple of the songverse who have me rooting for them to find a way.
Sorry if I rambled, but cyne who have done something amazing with this series. Somehow, no matter what direction you take it, I will keep reading. Thank you.

Brilliant as usual. The RariJack, while a departure for you, is tender and very believable. Songverse Rarity remains one of the best-characterized ever.

And oh, that last line... "We lie in the dark." Subtle and deep, as if I'd expect anything less from Songverse.

2077976 the socks and Raridash scene in the middle of the story I copypasta/edited (it was originally in Twilight's POV) is the birth of the songverse. IT was born from socks.

2078016 I'm really attached to writing Rarity and Dash, so this made me a little sad too.

2078158 I may write more Rarijack. Actually, amusingly, Rarijack is a canon ship in another universe of mine--the universe of Memento Mori/the sequel I'm working on. I like Rarijack too! (Have you read the other one I did? I love Fields)

2078584 It made me feel sad. It was bitter.

And you didn't even see the other end I wrote, where I rewrote the end of Great Heart to fit this story. It was *sad*

2078717 heh heh heh I love that last line. It's honestly one of the best ones I have. I was hoping someone would catch that double word there.

2078864 oh yes, I read that one. A lovely piece of bittersweet storytelling.

Only you would do this, Cyne. Only you would take a challenge I threw your way for shits and giggles and turn it into a feel-inducing machine.

It's weird. I'd almost like to see more of this version of the Songverse.

Great job, bud

Also. No editing credit :c

2079260 it is my only skill

!

I'm so sorry!!!! It slipped my mind. I'll add that. :c

And I might do one more of the Anto-Songverse. Similar to that thing I wrote you in the Gdoc after you made that second joke

you said this was part of a series right? so which fic should i read first?

2079502 You can read this one first, if you'd like. It's non canonical. But!

I'd read Where the Sun is Silent first, and then to Catch For Us the Foxes. The point where the two timeline kind of diverge is "Where the Sun is Silent", this being the path not traveled.

2080894 Those words literally describe most of my ponywriting ever.

This was a good story, even if it was sad and I'm not a fan of Raridash at all. You have a very nice writing style. I'm not sure if this would really qualify as Rarijack though, at least beyond one-sided, since Rarity isn't really "with" Applejack other than physically (definitely not with her mind or heart I mean). I actually felt a lot worse for Applejack than Rarity because of that, but like I said it was still good, and sometimes bittersweet stories are nice to read too.

2081775

No, I think she is. I wanted to communicate that she loves both, sort of. She loves Applejack (she's tender, she thinks of her fondly, lights up her way because she's worried she'll trip, etc...) but she can't get over Dash. So torn!

2081803

I understand what you're saying. I could tell Rarity loves Applejack and cares about her, but it didn't feel like she's in love with her at all, not like how Applejack seems to feel about her. It felt a lot more platonic from Rarity's pov, or like she's only with Applejack because she's comfortable and it's better than being alone right now, but not like her heart's really in it at all. That's just how I felt about it, but like I said it was well written either way.

2081857 No, that's alright. Actually that's probably a valid reading from what's there!

2081869

Yeah, I guess it just goes to show how much you really love someone if you're willing to give them everything even in a situation like that, and they don't feel the same way.

I don't like Rarity but this was so sad!:raritycry:
