Dai Kirai

24 year old brony in California (no I don't surf). Linguistics and Japanese major. Language and culture are my life. Fan of sci-fi and reading.

It has been a year since the portal connecting Earth and Equestria formed. Embassies have been set up and formal relations have been opened. But can the two sides keep the peace when everybody has their own agenda? Does everyone want the peace kept?

Sequel to Encounters. Part 2 of the Titans series.
While reading it is not required, it is encouraged.
Parts 3-5 will also be uploaded here.

And because I don't want to field this question again. This is NOT a TCB story, that kind of thing is reminiscent of some of the worst criminals in Earth's history, and is not to be taken lightly.

Please don't forget to comment, like or fav. And most importantly, to enjoy. This will update every Friday so long as I have some to upload.

If you don't want me to help you improve your story, then please ignore this.

Lyra, Equestria’s first anthropologist, her cyan-gray and white striped mane blended in with her mint-green coat, was sitting in the Corner of Applejack’s barn. Her lyre cutie mark seemed funny because she wasn’t able to specialize in music; she loved it of course, but certain situations had prevented her from being able to achieve it. That was when the musician had decided to go into xenobiology and study things that weren’t ponies; which eventually led to her being hunted by changelings and being the emissary to humans when the portal appeared on the outskirts of Ponyville over a year ago.

First, I want to commend you for starting to write. Everyone wants to write a book, but few do. You, my friend, are one of the few.

Second, I can tell you have thought through your story well, for what you have here is called and information dump, which is when an author give a ton of information that is currently irrelevant to the story. It is not to say that this information is unnecessary to the story as a whole, it is just presented in the wrong place.

To fix it, just delete all the irrelevant information and replace it with the things the viewpoint character, or the character in which the narrator is talking through, notices. You must also narrate the bias the viewpoint character has when they are viewing an object. For example, if you are viewing this story through Lyra, who is sad about leaving, then you might end up with something like this: "Lyra sat with a conical hat at the corner table. The room was full of colorful balloons, a number of treats, and a cake*. It was suppose to be a celebration, but in reality, it was a painfully long good-bye."

*If this were comedy, the cake would say "We Didn't End The Worlds!"

Third, keep reading, writing, and criticizing. These are the three main elements that I found improved me as a writer. You must read not only books, but books on how to write books. You must continue writing, no matter how unqualified you are. You must criticize to find what you truly believe in.

And finally, you are good at this. You just have to prove that to everyone else.

(Feel free to PM me if you have any question.)

I want to see Celestia's face when she learns that we can do this....

It has to do with trust. Why should ponies trust humans?

You know with Celestia and Lunas political bullshit in the first story and the ponies arrogance in this one Im starting to really dislike this Equestria.

Considering Humans at this point seem like they have the better cards, its only a matter of time before Pony Kind gets a wake up call.

2624960
I don't know if I would call it hate, just using others to gain an advantage, still sucks.

The bullshit from the first one was more meant to show they weren't pushovers. Things like what Sombra did are standard fare on Earth (where do clothes come from?). Up until a while ago (by immortal deity standards), slavery was not that long ago and racism is still rampant. Humans use whatever means they can, look at the relationship between missionaries and colonialism. One of the reasons democracy doesn't work in the Middle East is because neither side is willing to trust the other.

This would be a case in which a long memory colors opinions, but she isn't exactly wrong. Her job is to protect her ponies from external threats, which she almost failed to do at least twice (NMM and Chrys).

There is some trust, the Embassy is not shielded, so there is some mutual trust or expectation of mutual defense. Humans and ponies are working closely together, which if things go correctly will breed trust and respect.

As for the arrogance, look at what happened when Zecora came to town. How much worse would it be if potential predators that stink (we do, put out a tom of odor) and smells of what they eat were to come through your peaceful little town and they totted weapons that you couldn't even understand? Humans are also known to eat or cook their food while its still living (Asia), something that would seem incredibly cruel. Just look at what humans are willing to do to each other (Serbia? Nanjing?). It can be pretty bad, and that's because they aren't viewed as human. What about creatures that literally aren't human?

The weapons thing is a legitimate concern though, humans have a precedent for thinking in advance on how to take places over. Colonialism, bring them into your faith and then say the owe loyalty to your gods. Or the economic and war planning humans do. If guns were allowed and humans decided they no longer wanted peace, there would be no chance to stop them.

There are other concerns like military size and such, but this is already pretty long. :twilightblush: sorry. Just wanted to show the other side which I didn't properly do in the story. My goal is actually to show neither side is evil and neither is good. Hopefully the ponies will step up and show they are better. :yay:

2623771
She would already know, yes? She has studied human history. World War 2 cannot be studied without looking at how it ended and the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Not to mention that was a huge factor during the Cold War and led to a lot of the problems humans are facing today.

They probably also know of our penchant for chemical weapons. Several countries can 'easily' weaponize things like the Pnuemonic Plague or Ebola. Or how some have tried making chemicals weapons to kill only people of a certain 'race' but that's impossible with how human genetics work. Mutations and the fact there is no such thing as race (not genetically at least), make them unusable.

But ponies aren't human. They aren't even terrestrial. What if humans developed a means to remove a ponies' access to magic?

Again, why should Celestia just trust humans without a system to make sure her ponies are fully protected?

2623771
"The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the force."

Twilight watching Star Trek? The worlds first pony Trekkie?

2625779
:yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay: someone got the reference!!!!!!!! And just saw you avatar. :facehoof: Was going to say bonus points for naming the episode.
She just seems like the type that would love a good philosophical show like TNG.

These ponies are disgusting.

2625030
Always love to see other view points. What cards does each side hold?

2627897
Why? Your view may have been covered in a previous post.

Well, I am interested. Seeing as we are three chapters into the sequel, I think we can reasonable assume Dinky and Diamond Tiara are permanently exploded :raritydespair:. This is a bit saddening, since Derpy and her associated family hold a special place in my brony heart :derpytongue2:, but I suppose such a tragedy is befitting a fic where not just humans arrive in Equestria, but the U.S. Government, which never really bodes well. As a studen of Political Science, I am particularly interested in where you take this story.

Seriously though, Dinky? could you use no other unicorns? Or just make up some dastardly asshat villian who didn't look at his precious gem? I love little Dinky! :fluttershysad::fluttercry::fluttershyouch::fluttershbad::raritydespair::raritycry::applecry:

Always love to see other view points. What cards does each side hold?

Right off that bat is the weapons, humans are known to have them. Other things are, America built and has people stationed at both embassies, and the embassy in Nevada is in the middle of a desert, if the US did not want pony's getting out of the desert they could.
Also while pony's use magic, humans are innovative and are always adapting and getting better, in this sense magic is a disability for never evolving technology wise.

Lastly if the US did want to go to war with the Princess it would be very easy to get the support of the other nations and make it look justified. Just look at the Mexican and American war, and how Hawaii was attained, it can be very simple for the president to egg pony kind into attacking humans.

Lastly as a tidbit the Princess should know that Humans are aggressive, but we show acts of kindness and sometimes don't want war, examples include The Christmas Truce during WW1 and studies by historians finding alot of loaded guns at US Civil War sights showing Solders not firing.

2631004
Oh crap. Yeah, not a student of polisci :twilightoops: but hope to live up to your expectations. There is a reason I picked Dinky. While I don't like to give spoilers, you will find out what happened to her. Don't like loose ends and that is a huge one.

2631165
The middle of the desert with human population centers nearby, but yeah, could easily kick them out at this juncture. But they do have sheilding enough to keep out changelings. can almost see somepony saying "The assembled hordes of Genghis Khan couldn't get through that bubble."

Magic is innovative, if reversing gravity is possible as well as controlling weather, that is some serious firepower. Not to mention, how fast can RD fly in comparison to an F22? I also don't know if I could predict how Twilight would teleport, memories of Nightcrawler.

Was hoping no one would bring up that war yet (just commented on it in a later chapter, but love the analysis:yay:), but the global actions might be different. The US can't pull troops from overseas (Isreal and Korea) without allowing war to start in those locations. And would China and Russia really be willing to help the US under any circumstances? How do you egg ponies into attacking first?

And I completely agree with you on not wanting war, it should always be a last resort and the Christmas Truce is a perfect example of what humans can be if they are allowed to be, human. But lets not forget Rwanda, Auschwitz, a plethora of others.

 This is fun

The middle of the desert with human population centers nearby, but yeah, could easily kick them out at this juncture. But they do have sheilding enough to keep out changelings. can almost see somepony saying "The assembled hordes of Genghis Khan couldn't get through that bubble."

The only reason I say US can lock down the area is its a desert vs the Equestria side that has green hills and forests.

Was hoping no one would bring up that war yet (just commented on it in a later chapter, but love the analysis), but the global actions might be different. The US can't pull troops from overseas (Isreal and Korea) without allowing war to start in those locations. And would China and Russia really be willing to help the US under any circumstances? How do you egg ponies into attacking first?

My reasoning here is humans with different ideals can still band together biggest example is WW2 with US and Russia, Us actually did not like communist Russia before it joined the war. If the ponies wanted to play dirty they could get US and country X to hate each other with some espionage but I don't see ponies doing that, changeling yes.

Also as a side note I think the bigger question is, who is better then who is, who would influence the other more?

Now egging the ponies would be simple, to hate us would be to do what humans do best, be an invasive species that claims lands that are not even his. If Equestria does not manage the flow of humans, well that pristine land with gems, wood, etc looks pretty good to a 7 Billion pop. planet, Pretty much what the New World was.

Also I need to give the pony's more credit, they do have magic, but what is even better is a land full of riches, (mostly gems before that part of the economy fails) that could in essence make Equestria really rich really fast, Pretty much a pony Dubai.

2631792
US and Russia in WWII was because Hitler wanted to try a two front war and Russia decided to take the other side. And it then became a rush who could finish the war first and the idea of splitting Japan with Russia. Japan was thinking of surrendering to Russia after all. But changelings are always fun. :trollestia:

Equestria would look pretty good, wish I had thought deeper on that subject. And didn't give any thought to an economic war. :derpytongue2::facehoof: Especially if they could 'make them special' like with Murano glass, but hard to do.

Also I think the bigger picture is who is going to influence the other more. Over time ideas and beliefs will be exchanged, and its one thing to be human its another to think like one. Same with pony kind.

2631679
That is... somewhat reassuring. I don't need much on the political end, just so long as the participants know "how to play the game" as it were.

I can only imagine the kind of influence some things in Equestria will have on earth. Their cows are sapient, so are their sheep. Nobody on earth would look at a burger the same way if you had watched an interview from Equestria with a cattle herd. Now I have some insane idea of a group from PETA trying to smuggle a cow into Equestria to see if the magic there would make it intelligent.

And the diversity of sapient species on the ponies world would be amazing to most scientists. You have griffons, diamond dogs, minotaur's, zebras, dragons and more. We know from the map that the griffons have to have a kingdom somewhere. And I'm betting the diamond dogs and minotaur's do as well. They're likely to eventually want an in with the humans as well.

Now all those people who claim that Stonehenge, or some other place, is some giant super magical site can find out if they're right. All they'd need is a unicorn to check it out.

2640358
I agree, it would be a marvelous research opportunity. The things that could be learned and shared would be remarkable. I like the idea of them helping out during the most extreme natural disasters. Most likely, but there are also changelings, black magic and the like. Emotions actually have power. The animals are different species though, that could be like comparing a marmoset to a human. And they would want an in just like other countries on Earth would want in.

As for PETA, yeah, not touching that one with a ten foot pole.

2658238
Its not. Comparing to her own life and how they have nothing to guide them, which isn't really a bad thing, individualism and all. Lifespans are the same for common ponies as humans, easier that way.

The tv program she watched was meant to be a mockery of Glen Beck, a show that is great to laugh at and who compares everything to Nazi's. It was meant to show the differences between different news outlets since most were being kind.

Both sides have good, both sides have evil.

I'm surprised a new sentient species surprised anyone, considering we're used to almost an entire animal kingdom worth of them running around the Earth.

Is this Celestia written as a god or just a really wise and powerful pony?

2658686 2658670
Used sapient in the earlier one, got lazy :twilightblush:

Guess the question that must be asked is; what is a god?

2658940 Chuck Norris, but in these fanfics... usually some kind of infallible, supreme being that's better than everyone else by virtue of being its divine self.

That reporter either needs to go back to history class and learn the difference between Diarchy and a dictatorship, or he is very biased. Also its always nice to see how the pony's philosophy is Harmony while Humans it's Freedom.

2658981>>2659011
The definition is a deity, but they can make mistakes and some can be killed based upon which mythology you follow. Bur Celestia can and does make mistakes and can be killed, thought I had mentioned that once or twice but meh. So yeah, she could be considered a god, but could also be considered not a god.

2659542
He is a 'reporter.' AKA commentator designed to get rating and follow certain agendas. AKA Glen Edward Lee Beck.
That is an interesting difference, but not all human philosophy is freedom. More ancient beliefs or Asian.

Edit: Feel I need to clarify a little. I picked him because he is well known and his shtick with the Nazi flag says a lot about how entertainment works. There are things to love and hate about both sides and I keep, to the best of my ability, my own personal/ideological beliefs to myself.

Forced drama incoming.

Bullshit! I call Bullshit! You may have offed Dinky, but no way in hell you killed Sweetie Belle! Especially not in a manner like that!

Why would the Ambassador's little sister even be allowed to wander around without some form of escort? Why would the military installation where guards have orders to shoot to kill have no way of warning the nearby townsfolk who mostly don't speak English not have signs in the local language to stay away? Why would such a facility be active, and guarded so heavily? And no humans in the pony settlement around the human-ponyembassy? And did you really just use the "heartless soldier kills the innocent kid" trope just to build political tension?

I know I'm nit-picking now, but for that cliffhanger, your nits will be picked furiously. FURIOUSLY

2689839
Where else are the workers supposed to live, it is technically their territory. Who said they viewed each other as a risk when this was first set up?

2690594
One thing you should know about speculative fiction and scifi in general. A character is never dead unless you see it. There is no reason to just kill something and the humans aren't heartless. What is his side? Could she have been a changeling? The military does know about changelings.

Area 51 can't just be shut down and it was one guard. What were their orders? Who said Sweetie Belle didn't know English? This was based off an actual incident a few years back where a Japanese student studying in the states was killed because he didn't know about colloquialisms. Freeze isn't taught in classes and sounds very close to please.

Please, pick away. For that one it's pretty deserved.

2691592
I like it. Knowing there are people ready to kick my butt, it helps. :rainbowwild:
It was a problem though, knowing how much it WOULD piss people off. :unsuresweetie: And will continue to do so.
Sorry if I seem abrupt or anything. I'm mostly harmless :scootangel: just snarky.

Please don't stuff Sweetie Belle into the fridge. I just finished reading Into the Black a few weeks back. :raritydespair:

2719004
Into the Black, don't think I've read that one. Any good?

:ajsleepy: Shouldn't say this but Sweetie Belle... Like I would actually spoil it. :trollestia: you'll find out soon enough. :pinkiehappy:

so was sweetie belle shot or not and how bad was it

This story takes a very depressing path based on your other story futures.

2720054 You should give it a read. But it also ends badly for Sweetie Belle...:raritycry:

2720222
They pretty much restrict themselves or get visas, it is a foreign country technically.

2720282
There are still quite a few people in this day and age that can't accept that there are other HUMAN civilizations out there.

2720375
Sorry, the problem with writing, kinda forget what wasn't covered and know the story so well i forgot to put that in. She was shot but nothing life-threatening. Will add that in a side story before the next chapter releases.

2720428
Was that THE future though? That is what must be asked.

So, does this mean this won't end like Futures?

2720428>>2722090 That seemed more like a Bad Future than anything else.

2745512
As I said before: "The future is always in motion." :trollestia:
On the other hoof, what was so bad about Futures? The two sides were at peace. They had 4 years for this to work out.

 One other question since you seem interested. Think this one through. If these two branches diverge, why? What caused the changes and did they really make improvements? :twilightoops: :rainbowderp:

i really hate that senator

Ponies should know better than to attempt to lie. There is nothing they can say now to defuse this.

I have mixed feelings about this fic. In some ways I find it sort of predictable. Holier-than-thou president, evil senator, stupid elitists, and a girl disenchanted by society. I dislike this notion that a president can just go hash out a treaty with an alien race just because. I think that weaponizing those magic gems should be touched. It would also be nice if the Senator had more sophisticated reasons other than "I hate the president and therefor ponies". If it makes sense, when I read this fic I see a two dimensional conflict played out by a mixture of two dimensional and three dimensional characters.

But there are some points for the fic. I like the part in which Sweetie Belle got shot. It gives some insight into might happen with language barriers and suspected espionage. In fact I wish you would have gone into the ramifications more. Touching things like child soldiers and other threats.

It would also be pretty cool if you could go into some detail with the soldier trying to reconcile with Sweetie Belle and Rarity. The soldier who lost his marefriend would be interesting to look at.

How about a warrant before you go man-handling a foreign dignitary on wild accusations and paranoia, Senator? Oh wait, politician. No regards to basic rights unless they're his rights. All three of them are musicians, and Lyra just wanted her recorder to blend in well with her dress. Simple as that. Sen. Brent realistically has nothing in his blind attempt to frame Equestria as a whole for acts of espionage.

What crime would Lyra have committed via the listening device? Recording people without their consent? Already happens. Stealing government secrets? I can guarantee very little of any conversation she had that night had anything to do with Military Intelligence, outside of "I heard about that soldier shooting that little filly, dreadful business."

The Sen. has put his foot in his mouth here, and may jeopardize his own credibility as a public servant.

I can think of several ways of defusing the situation, and only a few of them involves knocking the senator out before he makes even more of an ass of himself.

Having read Futures, this fills me with dread.

2756530
The issue is that, this stems more from inexperience and that I have yet to put out the reasons for people like the Senator's actions. Just like soldier, his ideas are hidden, which is my fault. :facehoof: And the President does have the ability to make treaties like that, whether or not that's a good thing is still up for debate.
As for child soldiers, no. I don't think that is something I could actually write, too many emotions there. I could barely write some other scenes and that one is much worse.
Also the soldier (both of them) will be reappearing later, this series isn't even 1/3 through its main arc yet.

2757694
That is just what I named the series I am writing. would be Encounters and Futures. http://www.fimfiction.net/story/78555/encounters http://www.fimfiction.net/story/102833/futures

2758661
Except there is no logic for why she would have one, or how he knew she would have it. Risk vs Reward. And if it would be considered espionage from a foreign country. He has no chance of imprisoning her, diplomatic immunity, but he wants others to distrust ponies.

2759195
:pinkiegasp::pinkiegasp::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::scootangel:

2766434
There's a reason Futures was written :trollestia::unsuresweetie:

2748483 I remember there being a time machine in Futures...

2768826
Unless that was the machine that blew up. They were walking towards it, hence why that machine was hit. And who could possibly have reconstructed it?:trollestia:

2768579
Octavia gives a perfect reason for them to have the listening stones, their occupation as musicians. As for the placement of the stone, it could easily been put there as a fasion accesory so the device would not clash with the rest of the ensemble. If Lyta's panicing didn't give away that she was up to somthing, the senator coyld easily be made to look like a fool. Un doubtably people would have an issue with having a conversation with someone only to find out the person had a listening device on them, but probably not as much as an elected represenative causimg an international incident.

2791611
My opinion? The inclusion of humans and the fact that they are in conflict with ponies. That characters die or can get seriously injured. The fact that people assume it is somehow related to TCB or maybe the fact that I dis TCB in the description. The fact that nothing was really described in the description or that the over arching problems weren't telegraphed well. There can be many reasons. :twilightblush:

The stories I read and would love to write are the slow starters, but doing so many characters is hard. :twilightoops:

Now my question to you. Much better? How and why? (always trying to improve)

It will be interesting in 2 years when the Human Olympics start and if the ponies are allowed to be in it, probably not considering different body types. Not many Equestria on Earth stories say anything about one of the biggest peaceful events in the world.
