So, Like, I Graduated High School. Like, Yesterday. *yay* · 12:52pm Jun 4th, 2021
A ceremony, robe, yellow scarf, and the notorious square cap, some speeches about progress and the ripened fruit of labor during the past 4 years — I heard, saw, and had them all.
So why then am I not really overjoyed and happy that is all over?
Because it isn't. This chapter has not yet concluded for two simple reasons. And they're both exams.
First, the high school conclusion exam — also called Baccalaureate here where I'm from (or just the Bac). Second, the University admission exam. Failing to pass the former informally means you've failed high school; you need to pass it in order to apply for University here.
The former is to take place during this month on the 28th, 29th, and 30th day. Why three days, you ask? Because it's divided in three standalone tests, each taking place during a day and each giving you three hours to finish them, in this specific order: the Romanian language and literature (bună!), Mathematics, and one of my own choosing in accordance to the high school's specialization (of which are Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Computer Science) — and, as you probably guessed it, I chose Computer Science. The grading system here is a bit different; 10.00 is that highest one could achieve, and 1.00, the lowest — you need at least 5.00/10.00 to pass one of the tests and an average of the three tests of 6.00/10.00 to pass the just aforementioned exam.
It is not that I'm afraid of failing it. No, I really am not; I did fairly well in the mock exam session (7.95/10.00, 7.00/10.00, 9.55/10.00) which was held in March. It's more of a social pressure than anything, but I won't delve deeper into that.
The University admission exam is a multiple choice one, which tests: English (of B2 level), Computer Science and Mathematics competencies. My only fear is, as expected, Math — not only because I struggle somewhat with it, but because its impact is 50% on the final admission grade, unlike 30% for Computer Science, and 20% for English. But despite the fear, I don't worry that much about it.
So, yeah. It's not over yet, but I'll manage.
I'm happy to hear that you've graduated from high school, and good luck for those university exams!
