A small flicker of light catches Twilight's attention, a strange anomaly in the sky. When she questions Princess Luna, Twilight is rewarded with a story — one both terrible and beautiful.

Thanks, David. I missed a few when moving Luna's dialog over to modern English.

This was a really nice read. Very enjoyable.
One wonders though, are the stars the souls of the children and does that mean they're stuck under the black sky forever, unable to move on to the afterlife?

I suppose it's more like that is their form of afterlife.

That sounds like it sucks.
The really sad/ horrible thing is I actually could imagine Celestia doing this. I don't thing Twilight would smile.
Wonderful story.

Me too.
I'm always a sucker for the "sadness of Nightmare Moon" stuff, but this added a twist I hadn't seen before, and made it feel very real and touching. Thanks for sharing!

This story was fun to write, even with some parts falling into more somber tones. I'm glad you enjoyed reading it and I hope my next stories are this well received too
