Do ponies even need steam power?
A terrible mistake written for Bicyclette's second A Thousand Words contest in the 'Experimental' category, since there was no category for 'disaster'. Proofread by prayer.

Am I the only one a little let down the lack of discussion about actually having a steam engine and its ramifications upon Equestrian society? OK fic, got a little muddled though. Weird that Twilight would narrate her own life in a letter to Celestia, but hey, that's our Twilight.
Given that Equestria already has a rail system and steam locos, why does Twilight need to invent it again?
... .
I'm not sure what I just read, but I loved it!
aww i am glad he had a nice toasty bed!
a very interesting take that i will adopt as 100% canon
hehe that is a fun sentence
that would indeed put a damper on such pleasant conversation
aww, well that explains why we stop seeing that winter saddle
noooooo that was such a meaningful moment between the two!
that is indeed very fortunate, thank Celestia!
really makes you think
that is so true, Celestia is very good at ruling
not to mention the dossiers!
damn, Trixie L
a fun, sardonic take on all the little things about Equestria that are very strange if you try to think about them too hard. thank you for writing!
That cover art is either a bad sign or a very, very good one.
… Having read the story, I still can’t decide which. There’s a carefree attitude towards logic, sensibility, and consistent verb tenses here reminiscent of Super Trampoline. I see why you submitted this one under Experimental, and I can’t decide how I feel about the resulting data. Points for flummoxing me to this degree, and thank you for the entry.
Now, that's just funny!
I agree with the second comment, and wonder why Twi would need to invent the steam engine when there are already steam-powered trains chugging across the countryside. Oh, well, a 1000-word limit can do that to a story. It's still a fun read. I love Twi's nonchalance while watching her home burn. At least Spike has a toasty warm bed.
🦉 Who?
