Shudderbones, Steampunk, and more · 1:20am Aug 18th, 2015
Steampunk holds the prize as my first OC. Or, rather, a draft of him.
Steampunk was originally named "Gear Head", I had made him to impress this Pegasister I had a crush on. Gear Head was grey, with a blue "mad scientist" sort of mane and no tail. His front left hoof was replaced by a robot leg. I, of course, had no previous experience with MLP and in fact was not even a Brony at the time. I kept Gearhead in mind though, until years later. When I first watched the show.
I had made a completely new OC, this one was Shudderbones, the dark evil necromancer unicorn. Then I realized this OC sort of fell under the stereotypical "ultimate villain." So I made him a good guy, a pacifist, and gave him an appropriate backstory to explain his behaviour. Many people liked him. Some loved him. But not everyone appreciated Shudderbones. He was too "over-powered", even once I put limits to what his necromancy can do.
So Gear Head was back. He went through several names as I tried to find one that was at least SOMEWHAT original.
Gear Head. Taken.
Gearhead. Taken.
Ironhoof. Taken.
Clockwork. Taken.
Cogwheel. NOT taken, but it sounded far too much like "cock wheel", so that name was a negative.
Steampunk. No one else named their OC Steampunk. A lot of people still harassed me over the name. Possibly because it was a rare name, since no one else thought to name their own inventor OCs that. Harassment continued, this time using the argument of "you can't name your OC after a genre of fiction."
Hell, you named your OC after yourself. At least gimme some credit for being original.
I started writing BRAVERY. BRAVERY wasn't my first fan fiction, my first being SHUDDERBONES: THE NECROMANCER OF FLAME GEYSER SWAMP.
But BRAVERY has been the one I've been working on the longest.
After getting into Fallout: Equestria, I started writing FALLOUT: EQUESTRIA - SPIRIT OF CHAOS. Of course, that story was met by harassment as well, even though it was only in it's draft stage. The character Diesel wasn't liked. A Screwball/Steampunk shipping was not appreciated. The idea of Discord dying was definitely not appreciated.
Harassment harassment harassment. It's like how some Bronies think they can get their goddamn point across, by being aggressive to the point of cyberbullying and harassing.
It's all I've been met with since joining the Brony community. I've thought of leaving many times, but my love for the show kept me on board. Let's hope it stays that way.
Harassment.
I would legitimately like to see a story about Shudderbones. Necromancer characters are always enjoyable to watch, since they tend to have a 'no fucks were given' kind of attitude. And it makes sense. "Oh, you slaughtered my elite guard? I'll just raise them from the dead. Again."
3327987 Shudderbones is less "I don't give a fuck" and more "What the fuck is happening?"
