Ruby's the friendly ghost filly from Story of the Blanks, and one of the main heroines of Fools and Drunks (the story I tagged in this blog post). As far as I know, nobody's' ever done a story about Equestria Girls Ruby, but maybe I will. The song is about a Ghost Hitchhiker -- you know the basic premise ... person picks up a mysterious girl by the roadside, drives her somewhere, and then she vanishes ... often later the person learns that she died a long time ago on this road These stories are actually older than motor vehicles, in the originals the guy is driving a wagon, riding a horse or walkiing.
Maybe Ruby hitchhikes. My Ruby would even have a good reason. Somepony could carry her over the bridge to North Ponyville easier than she could cross it on her own hooves (running water problem). And I've established she likes to spy on the living, for the sake of her loneliness and curiosity.

Honestly, Ruby Gift is a packrat. If it wasn't for Mitta, there'd be no way to walk between the piles of stuff, and she'd have to float over or phase through it all.
