I'm a long time science fiction and animation fan who stumbled into My Little Pony fandom and got caught -- I guess I'm a Brony Forever now.

    Shipping Sunset Shimmer with Sci-Twi

    I. A Tale of Two Shows When I wrote the few pieces of fiction I have set in the Equestria Girls side continuity, I wrote them from the assumption that Sunset Shimmer was heterosexual and passionate (though at first sexually-inexperienced, due to her youth at the time of entering the Humanoid world). Given this, my unfinished prequel (An Equestrian Gentlemare) was chiefly

    Generic Likely Equestrian Future

This assumes a vanilla Equestrian future, rather than the specific one of the Shadow Wars Story Verse, though some of the comments apply to my SWSV as well. Generally, the SWSV Equestria advances faster than this, as can be seen by reference to the noted story.

Series Premise: The Moon Blooms · 10:10am Aug 16th, 2016

Introduction: Got this series premise yesterday.

Setting: Tranquility City, Luna, YOH 1595-1605 (95-105 years After Luna's Return, 71-81 years after the Last Battle).

Overall Plot: Unicorn colt Silver Shield (b. 1584), and his five friends deal with life growing up on the Moon, while gradually understanding their strange link to the Lunar Tree of Harmony and to six unusual Ponies who fell saving the Lunar Tree from the Night Shadows in the last years of the Shadow War. The Lunar colonies seem to be doing well -- but a secessionist movement backed by mysterious mystical forces threatens the future of the Moon. Can the Moon Blooms prevail?

Characters:
Silver Shield: A Unicorn colt with the ability to project extremely poweful shields. He wants to protect his friends from all harm; but can he protect them -- and himself -- from an eerie legacy?
Apple Bloom III: Grand-daughter of the great pioneer who founded Tranquility City. A shy Earth Pony filly who just wants to be allowed to help living things grow and heal. Best friend of Silver Shield.
Goldie Heart: Pegasus filly with a lot of love for her friends; she's in many ways the most normal of the Moon Blooms. Can her love help save them from the darkness, or will she wind up being too nice for her own good? A good friend of Bloomie's..
Heart Hope: Goldie's younger sister, a little Pegasus filly who is uncertain of her talent but hopes that they can all succeed. Will she help the find the way to triumh, or will her hopes be dashed? Goldie's favorite person.
Starry Dreams: A beautiul Unicorn filly, who wants to be famous, and now. Will her ambitions help her whole world, or will her impulsiveness lead her to make a tragic mistake?
Dynamo Driver: A hard-working Earth Pony with a seemingly-limitless ability to get the job done. He years after Starry. Will she choose him, or some fancier colt?

And ...

Lord Regolith: A mysterious being who seems to be able to move about at will, undetected, and is in some way controlling the Lunar Levellers. Who is he? What does he want? What is the nature of his strange links to Silver Shield and Bloomie? Can he be stopped? Or will he succeed in corrupting a whole new civilization?

Themes: Redemption, outgrowing the shadows of the past.

Comments: This is meant as science fantasy. Both the science fiction and fantasy elements will be very important to the overarcing story.

What do you think of it?

I like. Science fantasy of this sort is right up my street. Do any plans for the Mane Six in this story?

4152792

Yes, but if I involved them too much, they'd take over the story and solve the whole problem in at most a Season Opener or Ender. Among other things, they're all Alicorns by this point.

The two members of the Mane Six most likely to get involved would be Twilight Sparkle or Applejack. Twilight is Luna's Consort and often acts as a roving deputy for her; Applejack is connected to the Moon colony by family ties (the Apples are a major Lunar family, and Apple Bloom III ("Bloomie") is her younger sister's grand-daughter). The others have no particular ties to the Moon: Fluttershy usually travels with Discord terraforming small worlds; Rainbow Dash would only get involved if the Lunar Levellers actually rose up in arms (she's not Rainbow "Subtle Internal Security Investigation" Dash; Pinkie Pie does Pinkie things related to Paradise and protecting the timestream; and Rarity is involved with large-scale economics, politics and diplomacy.

Luna herself might get involved -- she's a strong advocate of space colonization in general, and the Lunar colony and most especially Tranquility City are of epsecial emotional significance to her. But she's very busy running Equestria, so she might not have time to notice what was happening.

And it starts small and subtle. And with some misdirection, from an external POV.

Fascinating concept, certainly. It will be very interesting to how equine civilization develops on the moon, far from its roots and yet still relatively close by. On the individual level, it will a chance to get to another sextet of especially unique ponies, and whatever Lord Regolith is.

In all, I'd say this sounds very promising.

Sounds amazing.

l say yes to the idea as it sounds really intriguing, but, as a caveat, you write down the skeleton for this story (little notes getting things straight etc.) and then clear up the field of incomplete stories in your stable. Examples that come to mind include: Dancing Alone, Fall of hive hunger-prime/Love starved, Royal business, Divine jealousy, Romance of the open road, All the way back and Long night at the Hippodrome. l'm leaving out many of the single chapter and dead-end incompletes, but you get the picture.

"The Moon Blooms" sounds like a great addition to the Shadow Wars Story Verse, especially since it's about new characters with unwritten fates. If it wouldn't spoil too much, could you tell us a bit about why is redemption a theme? I may be wrong, but I suspect it has to do with Lord Regolith's nature and goals. Anyway, I'm definitely hyped for this story, and I really hope you'll start it soon.

The most insidious and successful evil are always those which hides beneath a facade of nobility and righteousness, and manipulate the ignorant and naive into believing they are in the right.

I don't suppose that the secessionists, even if they had legitimate grievances against the authorities, won't realized they had been played until their ultimate defeat?

Entirely unrelated question, not intended for mockery or derision:
Am I correct in my understaning that most of your fics have protagonists that are either progeny or ancestors of Mane Six?

4154342

Well, no, but I do assume that the Mane Six have interesting ancestors and that all of them have progeny, eventually. Celestia and Luna are ancestors of almost everyone, and specifically Luna is ancestral to both the Twilights and the Nights. (Yes, my Twiluna shipping is very technically incestuous, though the connection is many centuries old). I don't believe I've ever published a story about their descendants, save to mention they exist. Apple Bloom III is a descendant of Apple Bloom, not Applejack. Silver Shield is a descendant of both SIlver Spoon and Shining Armor (though not from that direct cross).

4154472
You know, when I read that Silver Shield was good with barrier spells, I thought that he might be related to Shining Armor. I proceeded to ignore that thought, because I assumed that someone could be good at shield magic without being the Prince of The Crystal Empire's grandson. Honestly, I was really hoping to see a powerful magic user that didn't come from the Light Clan. This won't stop me from enjoying “The Moon Blooms” of course, I'm just disappointed that Silver Shield's abilities are apparently based on genetics.
