OPINION: Sci-Twi deserves more credit than she gets. · 1:14pm Jan 3rd, 2020
I actually prefer Sci-Twi over Princess Twilight. I realize I am in the minority when it comes to this.
Sci-Twi seems to me like a much more balanced character. She's nerdy, yes, but seems to be more...how do I say this...mentally stable than her counterpart. Yes, she does panic, but for legitimate reasons (like turning from a human into a pony).
Princess Twilight overreacts about the littlest things, as evidenced by Lesson Zero and Trivial Pursuit. I will admit, her character has matured so that she panics less. But I question her fitness to rule Equestria due to her mental stability.
It seems that her experience as Midnight Sparkle and Crystal Prep cemented in her the dangers of gaining knowledge or power at the expense of your friends. Princess Twilight seems to either have not learned her lesson, or she's learning very slowly...
Sidebar: Trivial Pursuit seems very incongruous with the rest of the Season 9 episodes in my opinion. It shows a obvious regression in Princess Twilight's character. If you ask me, they should have set that episode as a recall/flashback to around the time of season 2, when Twilight was still a unicorn. This would've kept Princess Twilight's character development consistent, while still giving us a funny episode with a helluva meme faces.
Sci-Twi comes off as more of a role model to me. While Princess Twilight comes off as a head-shaking "example" to learn from. If that makes any sense.
Most importantly: unlike Princess Twilight, Sci-Twi knows the danger of having too much power, through her alternate form Midnight Sparkle. You'd think since Princess Twilight is ruler of Equestria, she'd have some alternate form that keeps her from slipping into megalomania. Celestia has Daybreaker, Luna has Nightmare Moon. They pitted Princess Twilight and her friends against Cozy Glow, Tirek, and Chrysalis to prove to us that she's ready to rule Equestria. What would have proven to me her fitness to rule is the Princess's ability to overcome the demons within herself--perhaps a personification of her anxiety, her insecurity, her fear--with the help of her friends.
(Now I do realize this has turned into a finale rant, and I realize I'm a few months late to the party.) 
Also, Sci-Twi's glasses are cute, and I do ship her with Sunset Shimmer. Neither of them are as cute as Equestria Girls Applejack, though.
I've been dying to write a fic centered on Sci-Twi, but I haven't any good ideas as of yet.

I don't think you're in the minority. Maybe among MLP fans in general, because some people still don't like EQG. But among EQG fans, I think Sci-twi is more popular than Princess Twilight.
Also, I totally agree about the trivia episode being a regression. I think the reason we still see crazy stuff like that in Princess Twilight, but not Sci-twi, is that Sci-twi is less of a main character, and she's smart enough to be pretty rational. That makes her a good "reasonable" person to put next to a bunch of crazy (like Rainbow dash or Pinkie Pie) for contrast.
I like Sci-twi better, too. Mainly because I identify more with her.
Princess Twilight is an actual princess. I don't just mean the ruler of Equestria. Back in season 1, she was already the leader of the group, and the best to coordinate things. Consider Winter Wrap Up, or Dragonshy. She's always been a natural leader.
Scitwi has kinda been relieved of that duty, since Sunset Shimmer is the group's leader in the High School Universe. This leaves Scitwi to the remaining primary personality attribute that she shares with Princess Twilight: nerdiness. She's at least as big of a nerd as Princess Twi, and probably more. Consider the robot dog she created in Mad Twience. Consider the camera drone from Forgotten Friendship.
She's a total nerd. That's what I most identify with.
(Well, that and shipping her with Sunset Shimmer, who is totally my waifu.)

Yeah. I thought I'd hate EQG at first, but it's cool. It reminds me of High School Musical and my childhood.
Good point about Sci-Twi being a side character interesting that you say Princess Twilight is "not as smart" as Sci-Twi.
Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie in the pony world are also pretty crazy, so I wonder why Princess Twilight isn't serving as a voice of reason.
