I'm a long time science fiction and animation fan who stumbled into My Little Pony fandom and got caught -- I guess I'm a Brony Forever now.

This story is a sequel to Twelfth Equestriad Interview

YOH 1548 (forty-eight years after Luna's Return): When High Concept deliberately runs the wrong ad for Rarity Enterprises' Succession campaign, who shall ride to Rarity's rescue?

Well, who'd you think?

This is a side story to Twelfth Equestriad Interview. The first couple of scenes are adapted from part of its Chapter 4: "Second Break," from which it continues and on which it expands.

Nice fic, short and sweet, though I think it's pushing a little close to the "M" line. Once edit though:

"Very well. hange it then. You'll forfeit your payment for this half-holur of the campaign,

The "C" got left off change and I think that's "hour," unless Spike is suddenly speaking some dragonese.

Another intelligent peer into the Equestrian scene. I'm excited for this one.

The large, adolescent purple-and-green-and-yellow Dragon looked at his marshmallow Alicorn wife, then off as if to an imaginary audience (a habit he'd picked up long ago from Pinkie Pie) with a very dubious expression on his face.

Don't look at me, buddy. You married her.

Lesson of the day: Meddle not in the affairs of dragons or their wives, lest the hoard swell with contract violation fees.

You think Spike would have his wings by now.

I keep thinking of the Batman musical in Batman Beyond. McGinnis thought it was shway (cool); Bruce thought it was shwarbage. That ad was shwarbage.

:twilightoops: Rarity got Larsoned ! :pinkiehappy: Dual-in couch springs!

:applejackconfused: Ki-rin Ain't that a beer? :flutterrage: Spikes a bunny!

:rainbowhuh:

:duck: Go on. . .

'I have no more time for you', I think High Concept is having flashbacks to his father who treated him as a non-person right about now. I KNOW Spike and Rarity were doing what had to be done.

Oh my but things got a little steamy there. And I really like how Spike spoke to High Concept, who sounds like he needs to see a proctologist to get his head out of his backside!

Or Antarctica -- I hear some of the shoggoths there have taken to wearing clothes, haven't they?

How the heck -- they're blob monsters! How can they wear clothes?

You're right -- I debated over whether making it "T" or "M." Some of the foreplay is explicit, or close to it.

Thank you for pointing out those typos.

Mostly, when they're trying to assume (either for serious disguise or for more frivolous purposes) other forms, as in Michael Shea's "Fat-Face." Unlike in Michael Shea's world, though, they're not inherently evil -- I got the idea of them as morally neutral and possibly good from Elizabeth Bear's "Shoggoths In Bloom," which made the point that their hostility toward the Elder Things was in its origin justifiable, as they were in point of fact sapient slaves.

The Smooze, of course, is in the Shadow Wars Storyverse derived from shoggoth tissue.

6110532

He actually does -- I should mention that! Thanks for pointing it out ...

... and I see that for no obvious reason I described him as"wingless" originally. WHY did I do that?

6111182

I deliberately parodied Smaug's famous boast. In the Shadow Wars Storyverse, of course, Spike could have heard about that from Wise Dreamer.

6110383

He's actually quite happy he married her. But Rarity's never going to stop being melodramatic, not even when she's many centuries old. It's just her way, and she enjoys it.

...

...

...

... well, that escalated quickly.

6113398

What, the argument, or the sex? In context: High Concept deliberately tried to pull a fast one on Rarity, because he arrogantly assumed she'd love his alternate campaign, and he was hoping that she wouldn't want to fight over it. Spike, please note, didn't directly threaten to do anything illegal -- he let implication and racial fears speak for him. On purpose, as Spike actually isn't a brute at all, but in fact every bit as intelligent and devious as his wife.

As for the sex, they've been married forty years at this point. And Rarity really is turned on when Spike gets all forceful. That's actually based on canon: watch the episodes and observe just when Rarity's affection toward him starts to take a decidedly-romantic tone. Rarity is a very socially-dominant mare who likes being sexually dominated. Spike is happy to play her game, for it makes both of them happy.

I don't see anything OOC or morally-wrong about the way either of them behave.

6113524 Neither, actually, it's just the fact that I was expecting some crackfic involving Spike riding Rarity into High Concept HQ with a giant spear, and what I got stopped in its similarity at involving Spike riding Rarity.

And people say my head's in the gutter.

6113654

ROFLMAO!!! :rainbowlaugh:

No, the advertising business in near to mid term future Equestria is not quite so violent. This isn't Gladiator-At-Law, after all.

Well, who else should be riding Rarity but her husband? :raritywink:

I based it on an old Calvin Klein "Obsession" commercial from the 1980's that stuck in my mind because it was almost as hilariously bad.

6115897 I'm just glad he didn't pillage a Docker's ad. That way, she'd be saying "It's about nothing!!!"

...population most of whom have never known real hunger for a day in her life.

couldn't it be "... population most of whom had never known real hunger for a day in their lives"? I realize that the italicized portion in the beginning of your story is nominally about the creepy mare in the ad, but the wording of the portion that I pulled out suggests more to the broader world. With the wording of the companion piece, the setting seems to be somewhat reminiscent of the 60's/70's in the States with the children of The Greatest Generation never knowing the horrors of living through the depression and the war. From those tidbits, one could also have stirrings of a baby boom with rough cognates abounding.

6153013

You're right, because the object of the clause is "most" rather than "population." Fixed it.

Incidentally, the gender-default in Equestrian is female. Instead of "he" for a Pony of unknown sex, an Equestrian will say "she." This is the opposite of standard English usage.

Ships (nautical, not romantic ones) are still female because sailors have historically mostly been male.

(*nods*) Very much my intent. Thanks to Princess Luna and Claire Pie, however, there's going to be a safety-valve in the form of emigration to the extraterrestrial colonies.

a nice bit of information to add to my pile of a head cannon

Er, translated out of dragon speak, he said:

I have swords! I have other lethal weapons! I have armor! I have a flamethrower!

...while adjusting a contract. I think that quite clearly comes across as threatening violence, though a decent lawyer would be able to make it go away. Hopefully it wasn't being recorded. :facehoof:

It helps that he's the brother, brother-in-law and husband of three Alicorn Princesses, respectively, and in his own right a hero many times over of Equestria, the Crystal Empire and the whole world.

7568967

Yes, that would (and frankly, should) help a lot. It's still not a good idea for him to say that in this situation, but it's entirely believable that he would.
