I think I respectfully disagree. Yes, this chapter was hard to read. I found my eyes skipping around and getting lost in the ramble. I felt as scatterbrained as the gardener! Then… I thought, “wait a second, is this intentional?”

The formatting is exactly how it should be. Aye, it's a tough one to read, but so are Shakespeare and Dostoevsky monologues and they are highly praised. It's all about perspective.

I had a suspicion you were using a writing convention but I didn’t know any examples. It certainly works well for the way I interpreted it. I’m not sure if you were trying to characterize the gardener as a prattling old mare, but that’s the vibe I got and I really enjoyed it.
