Is Star Wars: Tales of the Empire good?

    I'm genuinely asking.

To be honest with you guys, I'm pretty much done with Disney Star Wars. I've just recently finished watching the series finale of "The Bad Batch" which is a pretty decent show overall. The final season as a whole felt really slow and dull, but it was okay.

Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with another movie review for tonight! This evening, I will be reviewing The Last Unicorn from 1982, per the request of grochek1! This was quite a rare treat to see: an animated film about a talking unicorn. Huh, looks like Twilight Sparkle may learn a thing or two from this movie because the unicorn may find bliss and joy in Equestria! Jokes aside, I haven't seen this film before until I checked it out last night; in my honest opinion, it was a fairly interesting movie. It is filled with decent character growth, world-building, and poetic lines of dialogue. While the film may be good in its own right, it does suffer from some flaws which prevent it from being a watchable movie.

This movie is literally about the last unicorn, roaming free in the woods while all members of her species have run away from the raging Red Bull of fire. Eager to find out where they are, she seeks help but with little success. She ultimately encounters a rusty wizard who joins her on the journey of seeking unicorns.

First off, the voice acting was really good...well, for the most part. Mia Farrow did a great job voicing the Unicorn and conveying accurate emotions for the character. Alan Arkin and the late Christopher Lee both did splendid vocal performances for Schmendrick and King Haggard respectively. I also loved Angela Lansbury's voice as Mommy Fortuna; it's just so good to hear her voice again although she played as an antagonist. Again, may she rest in peace. However, I wasn't entirely pleased with Jeff Bridges' role as Prince Lir. Aside from the fact that his voice acting was stale, his character was rather boring and generic. He didn't stand out to me in any way, and he somewhat reminded me of some Disney princes I know who are of similar attitudes. The fact that the cliched romantic tension even exists in this film is even more groan-inducing.

While I respect the animation of this film, the human characters looked so awkwardly animated and drawn. Some of their models even looked weird, to be honest. But as far as the Red Bull is concerned, it was very well-animated. It looked like a demonic force of nature that had no regard for any form of life. So props to the animators for that.

However, the slow pacing somewhat ruins the experience for me. For example, the scene with the talking butterfly dragged on way too long than it should have and made me want to grab a flyswatter and kill it. Seriously, shut the hell up and get to the point already. Another example is when Schmendrick tries to cast the correct spell to free the Unicorn from Fortuna's cage but failed every time. I get that he had his own doubts about being a real wizard and all, but it just got boring really quickly. Oh, and I think this film would have benefited greatly if they had just removed the scene with the talking female tree....who was holding Schmendrick with her breasts....with a seductive tone. That was so cringe-worthy.

So yeah, this movie has a lot of problems but it still holds up as far as the storyline and the characters are concerned. With that said, I will give it a flaming 7/10.

Peace!
