Could Sea Pods/Cities be a great starting point for an Island Adventure?

Hello everyone, so as I try to motivate others to participate in the amazing Tropical Post-Apocalyptic Story Contest, I stumble upon various videos that give me some ideas. One such video is the one below:

Question of the Week #151 (More NS)

Hello everyone and welcome back to the question of the week. Admittedly I've had a hard time figuring out questions to ask and the fact that I've been wotking on other non mlp related projects doesn't help much either.

I've been having trouble focusing on my mlp projects as of late. I've even been having trouble working on Act 3, so I've decided to try to read through the whole story so far.

    Apologizes...

Sorry for not being frequent with my Questions of the Week. I've been busy with some projects as well as homebrewing DnD 5e content. :twilightblush:

Yeah, that's not a great excuse, but it is what it is.

Hopefully I'll have an idea for a question or two later (that's the other problem, thinking of questions I haven't already asked), we'll see. :rainbowwild:

Question of the Week #110 · 2:34am Jun 14th, 2023

Hello everyone and welcome back to the question of the week.

So, recently I purchased the game Killer Frequency, and I have to say that I'm enjoying the game so far. This gradually gave me that idea of maybe writing a story about a pony working as a radio DJ at a radio station.

That could be entertaining. Right?

...Right? :twilightsheepish:

Okay, admittedly there would have to be more than just a story about someone working at a radio station. It would have to have good characters and maybe some drama in the case of it being a slice of life.

The question for this week is, what elements do you think are important for a story focused one someone working at a radio station, that can keep the story interesting? :rainbowderp:

I guess that's it for now.

It's hot out, so stay safe and stay hydrated. Have a wonderful day.

The Vinyl Scratch Tapes was a big thing way back when and that was two ponies chatting.

Maybe it can be a smaller radio station where ponies can call in and there are some regulars and a couple callers can just be calling in to complain about each other and the dj has to mediate but also eggs them on because it's good radio.

Maybe some fun stuff with callers. Maybe something with monsters or natural disasters.

It would be a good setup for horror, especially if you have the DJ alone in an isolated station. There's a really good creepypasta series on YouTube about that.

5733277 Would definitely want to do something with the callers.

I believe I know which creepypasta you speak of. Accounts of a Lonely Broadcast Station. :raritystarry:

That was an awesome creepypasta. :raritywink:

The social life of the radio hosts would be interesting. P
- People who have a picture in mind for the voice that ... just doesn't fit when they meet in person.
- Loyal fans who are worshipers but only slightly comprehensible
- Truly scary people
- Stalkers, who run afoul of the previous two
- Attractive people who have "make love to a radio personality/DJ" on their bucket list. Yes, I have it on good authority this is a thing.
- No, it wasn't me.
- Policemen/Firemen/late night denizens
- Frequent callers who are entertaining enough that they are allowed back by the director/programmer/call screener
etc.

Based off real world context, the radio host got to be really interesting to the listeners if they do frequent calls or just chatting away. Maybe the host has a unique perspective, has an interesting mix or clash of personality and genre, or does something no other radio shows have yet done.

The next would be the theme of the radio station. Does it have high octane music focus or more classical? Etc.

An interesting story that does something like this, but with only a single audience and it is walkie talkies, is Radiowaves by mushroompone. It is based off Firewatch, the walking simulator game that has an undertone of horror in it.

If you want a horror theme going down, you could try mixing a bit of Alan Wake and/or The Twilight Zone. The radio does calls or chats to their audience, but the host is narrating something horrorific happening in real time about a random audience they never met or called. Everyone thinks the host has crazy imagination.

Ps. There are typos in the question but I think I caught the gist of what you wanted to ask

I know this isn’t much, but when you bring up a premise like that, it immediately makes me think of this little thing I found at the Dollar Store once: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrz9YgP6D60&pp=ygUQcmFkaW8gc3Bvb2sgc2hvdw%3D%3D

Halloween radio program interviewing monsters, and it’s all kinds of silly.
