Writing is an Act of Faith

TLDR: in which I do some somewhat philosophical ramblings about writing, because it's late, it's been a tough week, and I just need to get some words out. The power of the stream-of-consciousness essay should not be understated, even if it's completely counter to the premise of an essay.

I've long held that writing is an act of faith, if not the product of it.

What We Talk About When We Talk About Writing - A Small Update

(At this point, maybe every blog will have a title referencing some literary work, for funsies)

Hi, everyone! I thought I'd drop by with a quick update as to what I've been working on. Nothing too fancy - I'm not good at making a blog look like that - but I figure this might interest some of you.

    Where I'm Calling From

    Introduction: A Confession

    I lied.

Well, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration. It would be more accurate to say that I opted for a partial truth. In the words of Carlos Ruiz Zafon, “Perhaps, as always, a lie was what would most resemble the truth”1—and in this fashion, I did lie.

Going to a con might have been just what I needed...

... to get back into the fanfic writing game.

I might totally be jinxing it by talking about it here, but I also think me saying it at all holds me to it, in a way.

Or maybe I'm just superstitious. Many writers are. :P

Post-con blogs are weird, how do I even do this lol

I had a lot of fun, for it being my first con ever! Got a lot of cool merch, attended a few interesting panels (including Iron Authors; unfortunately I had to miss the awards ceremony because of my flight), and even met up with a few of my EoJ crew. The highlight probably has to be being able to meet some of the fans who influenced me as a kid - got me into pony and what not - and just being able to tell them that.

I definitely want to go again. :raritywink:

Maybe I'll go myself next year if I'm free.

Glad you had a fun time. Also will you be going to UKPonyCon or is that too far for you?

I'm pretty sure Jarvy lives in America? Last UK PonyCon the Elements of Justice crew heads, who mostly live in Britain, hosted a panel around it. I didn't attend it myself, but I believe Jarvy participated with his crew remotely from across the pond. So I wouldn't hold your breath; if it were handy for him, surely it would have been his first con, not one in Seattle.

I'm sure he'll confirm either way, of course. :twilightsheepish:

Well if I could I would also attend the EoJ panel remotely
