Went from passing on my bowling league this year to currently being in 1st place

I noticed a while back that I haven't made any blogs about my bowling league this year. Time to fix that!

But first, I almost didn't join a league (a 36-week league) that I've been a part of, for the last 6 or so years, this year. Why is that you ask? If you're not a new follower, you may already know that, last July, I learned that I had to move to a new house by the end of August because the house failed an inspection from Section 8, and some of the issues found couldn't be fixed unless the house was "vacant". While I did find a new place in time, the deposit for the new house (as well and money used for just moving) ate up my money and the money I was able to hold on to for emergencies.

So in short, I was close to broke going into late August early September and needed at least a month for my depleted nest egg to start recovering, so there was no way I could have paid for my early bowling league fees. I was ready to skip bowling this time -- maybe bowl in a short winter league -- and texted my teammate about what was going on and they would have to replace me.

However, that teammate, with a little help from another teammate, said that he would pay for my league fees up until October, which I told them my money would have recovered enough for me to take over paying. In his words: "We are a team."

What a team, right? Right.

So thinking about how I almost didn't bowl at all, I almost feels weird that my team is currently sitting in 1st place (out of 14 teams) and this week will mark the 13th week of the league. We have been in 1st place for 4 weeks now and got to 1st place for the first time by playing and sweeping the former 1st place team when we went up against them a few weeks ago, and I even had by best night of bowling so far possibly due to how I was still a little sore over seeing my Dallas Cowboys get their asses kicked by the 49ers in prime-time no less. My 49er-fan older brother did not let me off easy.

Uh, ahem. Anyway, if my team can hold on for another 5 weeks, my team will win the first half of the league session and clinch a spot "roll-off" (in short, the roll-off has two teams that won the 1st and 2nd half of the league, respectively, face off for the cash prize of 1st place and 2nd place. My team's up against the current 2nd-place team this week and the 3rd-place team next week, so doing well would put us in great shape to take the first half of the session. Still, we are facing the second and third place teams in back-to-back weeks, but we have done well against such ranked teams. Can we do it again?

If only the Cowboys could have done the same. Yes I'm still a little salty about the loss to those Eagles yesterday and I really thought they were gonna pull off a late comeback win. It felt even worse than the 49ers loss since at least the 49ers all but killed hope before the 4th quarter even started. Well, punishing some bowling pins again as a consolation again will just have to do.
