Update on the Site's Year-2022 Stories (De-listed) · 4:20am Dec 30th, 2023
A surprising 4.4% to 5.5% of FimFiction stories published in 2022 were de-listed!
A year ago, I blogged on Year-2022 stories and identified the following published totals for 2022, which can be compared to this year.
Caveat: I lack the raw data to determine how many were delisted in total across the entire site or for other years.
Totals for year-2022 published stories as of around 2022-12-29:
Non-Mature Stories: 4271
Mature Stories: 2003
Total Stories: 6274 [Possibly 6343 if this had been tallied through 2022-12-31--see bracketed explanation below]
These totals missed a day or two at the end of the year so the following de-listed numbers are under-estimates when considering the entire year since usually about 15-30 stories are posted each day. Below, I have bracketed estimates that attempt to properly account for those sums--estimating another 69 stories as having disappeared during this year.
Totals for year-2022 published stories as of around 2023-12-29:
Non-Mature Stories: 4097 (4.1% less) (-174 in a year) [4039 if searching stories published through 12/29/2022 rather than the end of the year.]
Mature Stories: 1904 (4.9% less) (-99 in a year) [1893 if searching stories published through 12/29/2022 rather than the end of the year.]
Total Stories: 6001 (4.4% less) (-273 in a year) [5932 if searching stories published through 12/29/2022 rather than the end of the year. (-342... About a 5.5% loss.]
On 2023-07-15, the totals stood at:
Non-Mature Stories: 4170 (-101 since December 2022, about 2.4%)
Mature Stories: 1930 (-73 since December 2022, about 3.8%)
Total Stories: 6100 (-174 since December 2022, about 2.9%)
Thus, at least 90 non-mature and 50 mature stories (140-150 total) from year-2022-published stories have disappeared every six months. Given that the totals ignored two days at the end of the year, it is more likely that about 170 stories from 2022 disappeared every six months.
Procedure to replicate searches:
Input in the "Stories" search bar:
(published:>2022-1-1 AND published:<2022-12-31)

My pleasure!
The ranged search was surprisingly difficult to set up. The ALLCAPS may be important.
Your recent "project get" blog was quite interesting--thank you for reminding me to comment on it.
More statistics coming soon!
