The nightmare is over. We have returned. But we must not forget. We have to go back. To that painful past.

Luna's banishment really is something... · 11:47pm February 23rd

I've written two times about Luna's banishment already, yet I still have emotions I need to express. I've watched the Lullaby for a Princess animation again and that moment where Celestia repels Nightmare Moon, that slow motion shot of her falling into the moon, and the cut back to Celestia's face as she realizes what has happen...

It just does something to me. It was always there in the show but it wasn't touched much passed season 1 and that tantabus episode. But the feeling was always there, for anyone willing to dig it.
I want to write about that again. I want to make people feel the build up towards the inevitable. It's, in a way, what the star wars prequels should have been. That tragic build up. As someone suffering from depression and loneliness, Luna's story hits me harder than Anakin's unreasonable adolescent fears.
The worst part is... Luna's naive. She acts tought and regal in the show, but she still is childish in a way. We see how she is when she opens up.
She was robbed of that. Because no one cared enough. To push someone so far as to enact a blind vengeance, born from jealousy, she musy have been left alone for a long long time. Pain turned into anger. Anger turned into suffering.
And Celestia doesn't fair better. It's easy to cast her as the vilain in that story, but she wasn't. She was just negligent. She was busy ruling a world during the day. A world under constant threats, a world that needed to be built. She was the one to blame, she was the one blaming herself, but she understood it too late.

Season 4 didn't do justice to it, in my opinion. That scene needed to be more emotional. The "This is the night you banished her..." line always tickles my heart, but that's it. There's no before, no after. No shots of Celestia's reaction. And Celestia's too angry. It's almost like she knew it was coming, yet didn't act. Which, like, fair enough but in that case SHE IS the vilain!? And Nightmare Moon's talks only like a vilain. It's clear they didn't want to frame her as a tortured soul finaly unleashing her tourments on others (which, like, why did you made the tantabus episode next then???).
Yeah, yeah, kid show I know. Would be harsh to picture so much negative emotions on a kids show, on a secondary plotline. I feel like it deserved a whole episode.

Anyway. That's my rent. Thank you, I need to express my feelings into words sometimes. (weird for a writer, I know)
I wish that one day I'll be able to write a story that is so implicitely engaging. A story that leaves on people the same mark that Luna's banishment left on me.

https://youtu.be/K-jXk1eJsVU?feature=shared you need to listen to this song about Celestia and Luna if you haven't, there is no animation but it's a gut punch no mistake, just so you know you aren't the only person who feels the way you do about Luna's banishment and i love the two stories you wrote about it.

Thank you. I'll check it whenever I can.

You forgot to mention how Luna's own elements were used against her and her moon used as a prison for her, the complete irony of her very existence being used as a tool of her own destruction the mind spins.
