I do hope an episode for season 4 that instead of Rainbow Dash teaching Twilight to fly, Fluttershy does it. It could work two ways; either Twilight goes to Fluttershy to learn how to fly and Rainbow becomes jealous, or Rainbow gets injured and asks Fluttershy to do it in her stead. Something like that.

My main shpeel with it is that Twilight will be too overpowered. Alicorns can't die. They can fly, and use super-high level spells, far beyond the unicorn's highest ability of a 30 horn-power spell. I just think that with Twilight so powerful, all of the bad guys won't be powerful enough by comparison for Twilight to give any sort of trouble. Discord actually did almost win. Nightmare Moon brought night to the day. King Sombre got past the barrier and almost got through. But now, with Luna back as best princess, and Discord reformed, what can they really throw Twilight's way that will give her Alicorn abilites any trouble?

That's just my take on it.

Having actually done my research, Twilight being an Alicorn Princess does come with problems to solve.
The writer aren't perfect (especially a certain one...) but they are good enough to make good plot-lines.
Have you lost faith in the writers?
All come to think of it, I'll quote a friend of mine:

Fluttershy- Teach her how to use her new wings for finer skills like gripping objects.
Rainbow Dash- Teach her how to fly.
Applejack- Teach her how to control her new-found strength.
Rarity- Teach her the finer points of carrying herself as royalty.
Pinkie Pie- Teach her how to keep perspective and how to give joy to those she rules.

Plus together they form the elements of harmony, so that kind of holds them together, other than the whole "friendship is magic" and can overcome anything, thing.

Yeah because defeating several demigods, wrangling the guard-dog beast Cerberus back to Tartarus, tutoring the Goddess Princess Luna, mastering time-travel, teleportation, levitation, being the embodiment of magic itself, and being one of only six beings in Equestria that can wield the elements of harmony so doesn't already make her OP. :p

All the mane-6 are OP! How else would they defeat all the crap that threatens ponyville on a once-daily basis? Equestria is a death trap and it seems like Celestia is too busy with work and Luna with sleeping to lift a hoof to help.

Pretty much all she's getting if they make her an Alicorn is some extra duties and a pair of wings (something we already know she can give herself). It's not like she isn't already part of the royal family (her sister-in-law is Princess of the Crystal Kingdom).

It's my take on it, that is all.

And to be quite blunt, I do have a thing for the two-parters, as after watching the Nightmare Moon incident and Discord's escape, I became a brony. I have particular sentiments for the two-parters.
