I'm a brony and a Pinkie Pie fan but I like all of the mane six, as well as Spike. I hope to provide some entertaining and interesting fanfics for the Brony community.

Special Re-Review: Equestria Girls: Rollercoaster of Friendship

Season 8's mid season hiatus couldn't have come at a worser time for it, right on the heels of really bad episodes "Marks for Effort" and "The Mean Six", which were so low quality you have to wonder how they didn't get flagged for obvious writing mistakes or plot holes, and just further seemed to make the School of Friendship look like a bad idea that should not have been greenlit. So many people

    Episode Re-Review: The Mean Six

First and foremost, I want to briefly mention that my account for paid commisssions is up and running. It's CSPB2024. If you could all help spread the word about it, that would be appreciated. Now it's on to the episode proper, though I do briefly want to touch on the controversy surrounding the rumor about A.I. voices for "Make Your Mark" and "Tell Your Tale" that were recently debunked. It's

    Happy Birthday, Andrew Francis

Today is Andrew Francis' birthday. Fittingly, with today being Memorial Day, he is the voice of Shining Armor from the character's debut until his final on-screen appearance in Season 9. He was also the voice of Night Light for the character's first (and brief) speaking appearance in "The Crystalling, Part 2", and was the voice of a couple of other characters, including at least one royal guard.

Episode Re-Review: Marks for Effort (And Important Update!)

Before we get into the re-review, I have some important and unfortunate news to share with you all. Don't worry, I'm not leaving this site or deactivating my account if that's what you're thinking. Despite not having any new pony content to indulge on given that "Tell Your Tale" seems to have no interest in building on anything from "Make Your Mark" (Allura and Twitch have done nothing of

Magical Mystery Cure Review (And My Thoughts on Alicorn Twilight) · 4:43pm Feb 16th, 2013

O.k. first thing's first we already know Twilight becomes an alicorn. I'll post my thoughts on that at the end. But first we need to review the episode itself.

The episode begins with a song called "Morning in Ponyville" which goes right up to the opening credits. And of course we already knew M.A. Larson would be writing this episode. The last time we saw him was when he wrote "Magic Duel" and we all know that it turned out be amazing.

From there we learn that Rarity has Rainbow Dash's cutie mark, Rainbow Dash has Fluttershy's cutie mark, Fluttershy has Pinkie Pie's cutie mark, Pinkie Pie has Applejack's cutie mark and is Pinkamina, and Applejack has Rarity's cutie mark. They each describe the troubles they face in "What My Cutie Mark is Telling Me" or "Cutie Mark Destiny" as some call it.

From there we learn that this all came as the result of a spell Twilight accidentally cast. As it turns out that book from the end of "Crystal Empire Part 2" was indeed a Star Swirl The Bearded Book and Twilight was tasked with completing a spell that he couldn't do. Somehow the Elements of Harmony reacted to Twilight's chanting and triggered the swap.

Twilight then gets a "What have I done?!" moment complete with a "Blue Screen of Death Song". Spike urges Twilight not to give up and after looking at a picture of her friends which is ripped from the title squence Twilight realizes what she has to do.

Spike and Twilight set off with the Elements of Harmony and find that Fluttershy is about to move back to Cloudsdale. Before she does however Twilight convinces her to help Rainbow Dash who is tied up and inside of a gaint pot. Fluttershy manages to get the animals to calm down by feeding them and she has her Element of Harmony returned to normal. Twilight puts it on her and Fluttershy's memories come back to her in the form of "Your life flashes before your eyes" expect without the facing certain death part.
'
After that comes another song in the form of "A True, True Friend" during which all of the mane six help each other out and their cutie marks and Elements of Harmony go back to the way they were.

Once that is done Twilight realizes what she needs to complete the spell that Star Swirl himself couldn't finish. She has her friends blast her with the Elements of Harmony and at first we think she's going to emerge as an alicorn.

Well actually that doesn't happen. After a blinding flash all of Twilight's friends find that she's gone and that in her place is a black burn mark. Twilight emerges in what is clearly the afterlife and is meet not by Discord for a parody of the Q scene "Playing God" but Princess Celestia who tells her that she has done something that no other pony has ever done before. From there we get yet another song as Celestia explains how she was watching Twilight since the show began to see what she would learn. From there Celestia informs her that she is ready to move on.

Twilight returns to Ponyville where she quickly sports wings. Her friends all fawn over her new transformation and Princess Celestia confirms that Twilgiht is indeed a princess. From there she states that now everypony including Celestia herself is Twilight's student although Celestia will still be there to guide her.

From there the scene cuts to Canterlot where we see the room where the Royal Wedding was held and with Cadence and Luna standing side by side with Celestia who presents Princess Twilight. After that Twilight gives a speech saying how she wouldn't be here today without her friends and then Twilight is greeted by Shining Armor who finally sheds some manly tears and quickly passes it off with the old fashioned "I'm not crying" although he doesn't give the "I have something in my eye excuse". Princess Twilight then goes on a carriage ride where she sings the final song of the episode and the season, a reprise of the first song but with different lyrics.

To end off the season Princess Twilight shows that she has already mastered her wings and does a fly by around Canterlot. And the credits roll with "A True, True Friend" playing over them.

Well that's the episode so what did I think of it. Well I thought it was amazing in terms of animation and pretty good in terms of story. The songs were good too but I'm not so sure if we needed to see so many of them. Still this episode was great and I saw no noticeable flaws. By now Equestria Daily has confirmed that this is only the first part of a planned three parter so although the ending is not a cliff hanger there are still some things that were likely left unresolved so they could be addressed in the Season 4 opener.

As for what I thought of Alicorn Twilight. Well so far she's seems pretty good, she hasn't really changed much and neither has the show. For now I'd say I'm o.k. with it but I have a feeling that may change in the future when the movie and Season 4 come out.

This episode gets an A+. Don't let the songs drive you away, this is a really good episode and of course the show is far from over. Stay tuned to see my Season 3 review.

Songs... drive me away? What you talking 'bout? :trixieshiftright:

833240 Well a fan I'm following said that the songs kind of turned him off. I'm not sure how many people will actually like them, I hope a lot.

833253
I thought songs were... beautiful...

Eh, I can dig it. And I love how the animals rioted against Rainbow, funny as buck:rainbowlaugh:

Haven't watched it yet since it hasn't appeared on YouTube. I'll know when it appears on the site anyways.

I'll edit this post or post a brand new comment depending on whether I've got a lot to say or not.

833275 Not to mention it's an actor allusion since Asleigh Ball also voices the girl in "Littlest Pet Shop" and uses her Rainbow Dash voice. Funny thing is M.A. Larson writes for that show. :twistnerd:

833309 That's true, I forgot about it. I know Rainbow des the voice of one of the girls but not much else besides that:applejackunsure:

Thought the episode was incredibly rushed, I was far more interested in the whole Cutie Mark conundrum more than the Princess Coronation which I believe should have earned a two-parter episode. The first part ending at when the Elements blasted Twilight in the library and then following up as a second part when Celestia approaches her and THEN talks about the Princess situation.

However, since this was a musical episode I was really put off by the songs, but I kept to it and watched the rest of the episode like normal. (Thought the songs were bad, they ain't no Disney's Hellfire or Secret of Survival despite them being villain songs)

I'd go into more detail, but the episode didn't really do anything good or bad for me. It'd easily go in the middle.

6/10.

833554 Well what do you think of Alicorn Twilight do you like her or not?

833754

As long as her Princess title doesn't change her personality, traits and relationships with her friends then I've got nothing wrong with it.

833766 Well we've got the movie and Season 4 before we'll know for certain. Only time will tell.

833754

I posted this on another blog, but here is what I think in detail.

I watched the episode, and boy, loads of Brony websites especially in the comments section are all the text version of Hiroshima, nice to learn about, but devastating to imagine.

-

I watched and seen a couple of previews that shown off the episode being mostly told through the style of a musical... And hell, I watched the whole episode giving the songs a chance which is an achievement for me. I didn't like them which is no surprise to me or anyone especially, but they did the job of moving the story along during each musical scene so there wasn't any story wasted.

But yeah, quite a lot of people are peeved off at this episode because it wasn't a two-parter, I just really wish when the big moments of the show appear they'd be spread out and carefully though. I wish that the Crystal Empire episodes in their own two-parter glory were completely axed and INSTEAD the Coronation episode got that title. But no, a side of me wants to complain about the pacing, but I understand the limits of the show and the time that the creators have to work with when it comes to just one episode. So I'll leave that out.

I feel that the story was mixed around to make sure that everything smoothly progressed without having to waste a single second of airtime, but I thought the whole concept of CutieMarks and Destinies being swapped were WAAAAY more interesting than Twilight being turned into a Princess. I noticed at the start that Rarity said that she had Rainbow's Cutie Mark since the day it popped up on her flank and that was a brilliant idea! Keep going! Keep going! ... But it just shown the problems they had not being able to adapt to their new skills and then the quick solution.

But the part about Starswirl not accepting Friendship (or lacking an understanding of it) was an interesting idea, hell, I would've loved to hear more about Starswirl and the spells he made.

However, I don't think that Twilight did was enough to become a Princess. I mean... She has saved the kingdom (alongside her friends) from Nightmare Moon, Discord, Chrysalis and even Sombra (which I admit was more up to Spike since Twilight couldn't do anything.) She saved the entire land and countless lives and she gets a small clap and a nice little cheer, but fixing a spell from a (possibly) dead Wizards book grants her one of the most powerful positions in the land? What the hell.

I wonder why Twilight was so quick to take in the idea of a Princess, it's a pretty big job and she seemingly just took it as if she were going to carry an old mares shopping bags without thinking what HER friends would think. Aside from the pacing obviously, I'm just wondering why the big rush?

I don't have anything else to say, the animation was decent, the songs (I thought) were bad, the story was hit and miss in several areas. But Season 4 should remedy though problems with the correct answers... Right?

I'd give it a 6/10.

Time for some images from the episode motherfuckers!

833916 Yay Derpy's back. TV Tropes said she had a cameo in "Crystal Empire" but she was obscured. Nice to see Derpy is back in her usual cameos. As long as they still pull her out from time to time to show they haven't forgotten her than that's fine by me. Welcome back Derpy I know a lot of fans missed you.

834815

It's the last time you'll ever see her according to Hasbro.

834870 Well there's that petention you can sign to bring her back. It's in my blogs if you search for a little bit. Seems kind of pointless to remove her when she made several cameos before and no one had a problem with them.

835664

That's because most of Season 3 was partially finished when Hasbro made the announcement and the animation was already complete, they didn't want to tell the animation team to remove her because it would delay the show to a further date.

My opinion of Derpy seems in the middle, she isn't exactly a character that I care about nor is she one that I don't like. I feel her spot in the whole MLP spectrum is to stay with the fan-fics and fanart, because egging on and on about her in the show knowing Hasbro and the censors these days isn't the best way to get things done.

When that scene in which she had a whole few sentences to say appeared on YouTube, I KNEW and I mean, I KNEW that it was going to be edited. American Censors or wherever they get the show done nowadays would pick that up. And knowing how Western Parents and the general media are, I wasn't shocked nor surprised at the change and removal of Derpy.

Not to mention that Hasbro didn't want mud on their knees for adding in something that would bat an eyelid.

835730 I still feel like Derpy could've remained a background character and no one would mind. It seems a bit much to remove her completly. I don't care what the soccer moms say there is no reason to remove a character with a name that you think is offensive without proof. Luckly Derpy will always have a home in the hearts of many Bronies. They can remove her from the show but they can never remove her from our hearts.

835764

What Hasbro says, has to go, I'm afraid. But yeah, Derpy should be kept onto the fan side of the show, we can go on about her own little evolving back story and family as time progresses.
