Some Notes on Her Dark Inheritance · 12:57am Feb 20th, 2013
Okay, so since I posted the latest chapter last night, I've received a message from an individual who was very concerned about the direction that the story is going. They also clearly did not want to be identified, since they sent me an email through my personal blog from a throwaway email address. And surprisingly, it wasn't anon hate, they were asking really legitimate questions. I don't know if they thought I would be angry or something, but seriously, am I that scary? Don't be scared of me, I don't bite. Unless you're a burrito, but burritos can't type so you probably don't have anything to worry about. :)
Anyway, the writer of the message was wondering a few things, which I decided I would clear up here in a blog post, in case anyone else was wondering the same things but didn't want to ask me. Because of the importance of this post I'm tagging it so anyone subscribed to the story will get the update- I apologize for this, I don't mean to spam you. There's also no spoilers here, I'm speaking in the most general sense.
One- No, this is not one of those “King Sombra was really just misunderstood and really a good guy!” stories. It is also not one of those “King Sombra was 100% evil 100% of the time!” stories. He is complex. He has done some horrific things, even this early in the game, but he is not the complete monster we were shown in the television program... at least, not yet. Like real life, things are rarely ever stark black and white, they come in varying shades of gray. And hey, even evil has to have some standards.
Two- Yes, I am aware that the most recent chapter has some disturbing themes in it. Yes, I am aware of the implications. I wrote it, you'd think I would know what I was writing. But, and I feel that I must stress this- the incident in question will not be discussed in any more graphic detail than it was in this chapter.
Three- Yes, there is a point to all of this, I swear, and unlike in my other story posted here (The Donors, which is currently on hiatus) I will actually be getting to the point sometime before the heat death of the universe, I swear. I personally enjoy worldbuilding, but I'm not going to string you along for chapter after chapter leaving you wondering, “when the hell are you gonna move on from this?”
Anyway, seriously, if you ever have questions or concerns, feel free to contact me, and you don't have to do it with a throwaway. If you're not comfortable posting it in the open send me a PM or go to my personal blog and leave a comment there. I'd prefer you not email me though, mainly because AOL (where I have my fandom-issues email address) will sometimes eat my mail. I'm actually kind of amazed that this one came through at the time it was supposed to instead of hanging out in Email Purgatory for a week before finally getting delivered.
I love world building and realistic character (if not complex.) and am very happy with your work in this I might even read other stories of yours! (once am chewwed down half of the chapters i've put on my plate... wish me luck!) So am just hoping my praise t oyou on how your making Sombra apper and act litteraly leaves me with a thirst for me which is very good so I wanted to express my thanks to you by saying this. Thank you
One Question: will we get "only" the backstory or will we get to the revelation of secret and the followup?
BTW don't forget shining armor. I bet Sombra does a little vitory dance in Tartarus that despite everything his heir rules the Crystal Empire

While the majority of the story will be the backstory, Twilight will find out about her heritage. I haven't decided if I will end the story there or continue it, or end the story but do a sequel... we'll just have to see where it goes and if anyone wants to read that much.
And yes, Shining Armor will be included at that point. King Sombra was very pleased that his descendant would have become the ruler of the Crystal Empire... although he wasn't too thrilled that Shining married the descendent of his enemy King Staccato...

Thank you very much! I'm glad you're enjoying it!
