A little dose of normal · 12:12am Apr 2nd, 2013
In celebration of national poetry month--totally not because I'm in an English class and have homework--I wrote some poetry. I thought I might as well share them, give you guys a dose of normal to counteract all the April fools day tom foolery. I enjoy a good prank as much as the next guy, but I'm really glad this only happens once a year...
I wish these were a bit more happy and bubbly, but that hasn't been the kind of mood I've been in the past few days. Here they are. I hope you enjoy them.
What I am
What is this husk in which I abide?
With odd clarity, I look at me from outside.
And peering past the veil I see the falsehood,
and the twisted machine in which I reside.
These arms are a stranger’s, these hands are not mine.
Though it is not me, to it’s fate I’m affined.
with an uncanny wrongness it is made understood,
through this flesh, who we truly are does just barely shine.
The me that I see, to him, all others are blind.
The me that I am is trapped in this mind.
This great travesty, I have always withstood.
To the me that they see, I am disinclined.
Has this always been? Was this always the case?
The me that they see I’d rather efface.
To them, who I am, I’m unable to make good.
And all that is left is me the blank space.
Longing
The familiar dry chafe of thumb on page
The ache in my arm its weight I would assuage
Stiffness in back this chair is my cage
Words dance and weave on page along with my attention
The gaily swaying forms of friends behind my book my only retention
The staleness of my tongue born from overlong concentration
Bitterness in heart I come to resent my dedication
Hunger in soul for more than an education
Sweat is the smell of happiness and contentment
A books musk is the smell of my duties resentment
I hear not the words but merry voices on the air
Their happy tones tease me and my patience starts to wear
My mind has left my book and with them it is there
I like both of these.

And why is it that I can only see this stuff once somebody else points it out?

Couldn't tell you.
