Hey guys,
One of our rules that gets frequently contested is "meta" stories. Part of the problem is that it can be quite nebulous and the line can be hard to draw for how much meta content a story needs to be disallowed. Consequently, we've decided to run a quick poll to see how people feel about this issue because it really isn't for our benefit anyway. If people want meta stories then it's silly to ban them.
Edit: Meta Stories are essentially defined as any story that makes use of aspects regarding the fandom itself, including Fimfiction as a site and its userbase. Examples of such would be stories like:
-Big Macintosh Wrestles Knighty (Stories about Site Users)
-Alexstrazsa and Wanderer D Have a Completely Platonic Relationship In Equestria (Also Stories about Site Users)
-Digibrony in Equestria (Stories about "brony celebrities")
-Rainbow Dash Gets Featured on Fimfiction! (Stories about the Website)
-The Mane Six Go to Whatever MLP Convention (Stories about "brony culture")
The loud minority has waited for this very moment.
I am meh on this issue.
If option 2 wins I'll totally host a contest for writing porn for the staff members.

What's a meta story?
If meta ends up being allowed there better be a lot of stories about me and Wanderer having gay OC sex.
I think they're pretty funny sometimes, so I wouldn't mind to read a few of them. Plus I can then submit my one fic that failed.
inb4 someone complains that it's not fair to ask the users because we're infringing on their rights as users.

This subject doesn't especially concern me, since I neither read nor write them, but I have just a question:
The banning of meta stories, it was because they hogged the feature box, wasn't it? Would that still be an issue after the site layout and algorithms have been altered?

I honestly don't see a problem with them. I mean, if people want to write them, and other people want to read them, then why make it a thing?
Disclaimer: The only "meta" story I've read is Merlos' Bronycon thing, which I very much like, and I was dismayed to learn there was a huge drama blowup over it. I mean, c'mon man!
There do need to be guidelines though. Like, really obvious stuff, like don't write Lauren Faust clop.
Not really a fan, but I'm also not too fussed about whatever gets decided.
By the way, is there a bug with the timers on comments? I seem to notice them getting set to 6d 23h ago before warping back to a realistic time.
I feel like a lot of great literature could be written if the rule gets dropped. It'd certainly provide the opportunity for a lot of cultural self-analysis and critique of the fandom.

I really hope this goes through. I'd prefer them not to be feature-box eligible, but it would also I think help the mods who have to read these things since it would be one less thing they have to fail stories for.

I have a question on this.
If a fellow Fimfic user allows/gives consent to someone to use their OC in terms of a story but the reference to Fimfic is not made, what category does that fall under?
I don't mind them I suppose, I especially wan't the freedom to write one or write Meta scenes in the future.
