Hey, everyone! Have some groups for January!
The Collab Cage continues to strive to be the largest, most comprehensive hub for all things collaboration here on FiMFiction. In the coming months, expect an overhaul of the entire group, where we’ll be listening to you, the users, on what the group needs to best perform its services. Collaboration is our specialty, after all. So come join in the fun, work with your fellow authors, grow and improve as a writer! Ask questions, make friends, and run some wonderful collabs, right here, in the Cage.
Things which will be returning soon: the regularly scheduled mini-monthlies, themed to each month, attempting to hit on a specific writing challenge; a larger, more challenging prompt; a reorganization to the round robins; other projects waiting in the wings. A couple of our current collabs that might also interest you: So, This I Believe is a collab to share yourself as a person of faith; The Equestrian Bestiary is centered around world building and creativity. Both are open to any interested. Plus we always welcome new projects!
It’s simple, it’s fun, it’s often really random--it’s Prompt-a-Day! Yes, every single day a new prompt. There are no requirements, no sign ups, we need absolutely nothing from you at all. Prompt-a-Day simply exists as a tool to hopefully inspire those of you who might need a little creative push. Relatively simple, often random ideas can usually knock something loose, and you’d be surprised exactly how far a little bit of inspiration can be taken.
So if you’re feeling the curse of that dreaded writer’s block, if you’re looking for a little aside from your main project, even if you’re just curious and looking for a--mostly self-imposed--challenge, join us! We also allow you to share your responses with the others, and a little exposure never hurt anybody! So join us, offer up some prompts, comment and critique on others’ responses. It doesn’t cost you anything but a minute or two of your time. And you never know when one of our prompts might bring out the best in you.
Still somewhat under construction, the Original Character Tournaments group will be the primary organizational area and information board for all OC tournaments ran by myself, Peregrine Caged. What is an OC tournament?
A select number of authors will be gathered and asked to make original characters, usually under certain guidelines, and then they will be paired off and asked to write the ensuing combat scene.
These tournament projects exist not only for fun but to also provide practice for creating interesting and well-developed original characters and, most importantly of all, writing action sequences, which trouble so many authors. In time, the group itself will provide threads of information, tools and tips on achieving these two aspects so pivotal to good writing. For now it is simply serving as the information hub of the First Original Character Tournament.
The first tourney is currently full, but you are welcome to observe and comment, offer up suggestions, and, of course, vote on winners when the time comes. There will be more tourneys ran in the future, so stick around if you think you’d like to join in. This should be a relatively unique sort of project, and all are welcome to join.

Ever since the Lunaverse rose to popularity, many writers have tried to cash in (metaphorically, of course) on its core appeal, the “hook,” if you will, that made it so popular: a different set of characters taking on the role of the Mane 6 and, subsequently, the Elements of Harmony.
The Alternate Mane 6 group is dedicated to all those stories that retell the pilot episodes of Friendship is Magic. Our goal is to introduce readers to a multiverse of possibilities. If you like stories where, say, the cast is made up of background ponies, possibly with a touch of canon characters, then this is the place for you. Even if you just want to talk about what other ponies could make up the Elements, let’s talk about it.
But what if you’re not interested in leaving your beloved Mane 6 completely in the dust? Not to worry, we also have a section for the canon Mane 6, just with a few tweaks here and there to keep you from growing too bored of reading the same story again and again.
So come on in, browse around, and see the wonderful minds and imaginations that bring you new characters going through the same old story.

TwiDash Group

As in the first I've ran, yes. I'm under no illusion that this has never been done before at all (though I'd feel safe enough claiming mine to be the first canon-only, knowing fanfic writers like I do; edit: and looking at The Unity Games, that's a big yep to me, at least in that regard.).

Ah, like that. Well, yeah, some like to be a bit frivolous with the powers. That said, Pegasi are quite possibly the most powerful, then, being able to create tornadoes with little difficulty, provided they are quick enough.
Just an off-side comment; Be careful with trying to keep it too canon with power levels. Pegasi and Unicorns have a natural advantage over Earth Ponies. You may want to give them something to compensate.
I know I'm speaking out of turn, I just want to make sure you don't make the same mistake I did once.
Everyone keeps trying to tell me how to do my own projects. I get the sentiment, and I appreciate it, but seriously. It's a little frustrating.
By way of riposte to show no one need fear, I present roughly canon balance. (At least before playtesting)
So, by definition, it might not be 'pure canon', but all the jumps I've made have been based on canon observation and as logical build offs from that as possible. I've put a lot of time, effort, and thought into making this possible for anyone, no matter what they play as. Although, at the end of the day, what will cinch it is writing ability.
Jeez the Collab Cage has gotten big... I don't think I've even interacted with the group since the original Album
