School of Hard Knocks - new chapter and update

Hi, all!

Well, my editing team has given me the thumbs up for how I plan the next few chapters to go, so I'm going to go ahead and start publishing them as soon as they're done being edited. Here's the first, and I'm hoping the next one won't be too far behind. After this chapter will be four more, and possibly an epilogue to wrap things up.

I'm not sure why this has been such a hard story for me to write. I know it got darker than I'd intended, so maybe that's part of the reason why. Initially, this was intended to be a lighthearted comedy romp with some adventure along the way, but dang it if it didn't just start getting grittier and grittier as time went on. That doesn't mean that this has been a bad experience writing this, or anything. I still had a lot of fun!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the latest chapter, and I hope to have another one up pretty soon.

It can be tough to watch character you design fall into darker themes.

I will say, I would have never guessed this is how it was going to turn out. I was expecting far more body swap shenanigans and magical stuff, possibly cures that might work but ended up doing things totally unintended...

Having said that though, I was pleasantly surprised in the end by developments.
