So I Bought a Drawing Tablet... · 2:46am Jan 15th, 2014

Hello all.

So I recently acquired a Wacom tablet. I've wanted one for some time now, so I figured I might as well pick one up.

To back up a little bit, I enjoyed drawing when I was younger, everything from doodles, to little impromptu comics, sketches of helicopters, tanks, guns, Star Wars etc. Basically all the kinds of things you'd expect from an eight year old kid. Now I was by no means good; I've never taken any formal classes of any kind, which was always painfully obvious to me whenever I tried to draw people, hands, feet etc. But I enjoyed it. And I'd be lying if I said much of the Brony artwork that I see everyday didn't inspire me get back into drawing.

So now all I have to do is attempt to rekindle some long lost artistic ability at the age of 24, while learning from scratch how to use digital tablet, while continually telling myself that this kind of thing is a very long process to develop my own ability, even as Equestria Prevails' artwork of that badass Fire-Flye stares at me from my desktop background.

Simple right?

At the very least, I'd like to be able to perhaps do the artwork for my own stories, or even draw scenes from my stories that I could share with everyone here. The chances of that happening anytime soon are almost zilch, but you never know.

Soooooo... Anyone got any pointers?

Until next blog.

Anyone got any pointers?

Don't do like I did and give up after you spend a half-an-hour in Photoshop trying to figure out how to draw a circle.

Disregard everything you know about drawing on paper. (that's what i had to do at first)

Look up every tutorial on how to use your chosen drawing software and go back to your drawing basics, learn how to draw a circle again, cubes, squares, triangles, looped loops and learn how much pressure you need to use.

Most of all when what you draw doesn't turn out the way you want try again and don't give up, remember you have control Z, use it.

I don't know if you still wanted advice but I thought i might as well offer it.

Have fun!

No I appreciate any and all advice!

I have to admit, it is quite difficult. Tried drawing RD. Let me tell you, it looked like some kind of spawn of Satan. Pretty horrific. Might throw it up on a blog just for laughs.
