Royal Canterlot Library and more deployment stuff · 1:21am Feb 9th, 2014
First up, the good folks over at the Royal Canterlot Library just added Lost Cities to their collection. I answered some questions about the writing process and why I love MLP so much. If you get a chance, hit them up!
So, yeah, I haven't written anything in over a week, not since that latest short story in I'm Afraid of Changeling. The pre-deployment training hasn't left me with much free time.
On the other hand, I'm getting paid a surprising amount of money to run around eastern Wyoming. Here's a selfie from today's Land Navigation course:
Who is that handsome man? What is that white stuff on the ground? It probably doesn't come across well in the photo, but that cliff in the far background is well over 200 feet high. This was some rugged terrain to be playing around in.
On the other hand, it was nice and warm today, well over 20 degrees with light winds. That beats the high of 0 degrees we had the other day (and pretty much limited us to indoor training). This was probably my favorite day of training so far.
I know I try to have some pony stuff for each of these blogs, because that's really what everyone's here for, but this week's been a bit dry. I haven't even seen the new episode yet.
I've got a few more days here before heading home. Then it's back to work on The City in the Shadow of Night.
The last time the white stuff visited my part of the world was back in 2008/09, until this past Thursday. After nearly a foot of snow and the melt not starting yet some people are going crazy.
Lost Cities is without a doubt my favourite thing you've written, by a wide margin. I have a thing for forgotten civilizations and crumbling historical leftovers; being from the Canadian prairies, where history only really goes back a little over a hundred years, the concept of ancient ruins has always really captured me. Lost Cities got to me in a way usually reserved for much larger, much deeper stories - it was a spectacular experience reading it.
Gotta love the white stuff and lack of feeling in your fingers it brings on those long runs! Much better than the other extreme.
You are one handsome horse author.
I hear you on the cold. I live down in Colorado, and I spent a few mornings there, driving to work at the buttcrack of dawn in -12 degree temperatures, sitting in my car like:

Now I feel guilty, because you were probably hiking or something in that kind of weather.
Also, sometimes I think everyone is handsomer than me.

But he looks a lot less like Twilight Sparkle than I assumed.
In any case, I'll check out the interview. Lost Cities is a really intriguing series of... well, not exactly stories; more like vignettes?
Keep your head down! Don't volunteer! A clean dry pair of socks should always be kept in reserve (they make great gifts)!
