A Little History Behind Taismo: Discovering Equestria · 7:39am Mar 30th, 2014
When I decided to start posting my first MLP fiction, Taismo: Discovering Equestria I knew posting it here would cause confusion. Within a day of posting the first chapter, I got that first question about what was being read. I decided to address this now when the story is only at Chapter 3 so that there won't be too much more confusion about the upcoming updates I'll be making to the story.
Taismo, for those who don't know, is one of the many shipping names of the canon couple, Tails and Cosmo of the Sonic X anime. To make a long story short (because I have plans to explain that further elsewhere) that couple is my favorite couple of all time, and a few years ago, I finally decided to take months worth of story ideas and incorporate them into a new story. In 2010, on my deviantART account that I had since 2006, I started to submit a new story called Taismo and have kept the story going for over a hundred chapters. The series is a multi-crossover series that puts the couple as the main focus in a world where many other series are used together to broaden and expand ranges of creativity and adventure, and I couldn't be prouder of doing it like that because I grew up enjoying a lot of wonderful shows and games that kept my imagination expanding. Through that series did I decide to go forward with a new project, which also turned into a couple simultaneous projects as well.
What Taismo has to do with My Little Pony is fairly simple- when I became a fan of the show, I wanted to try and bring my Taismo world and the pony world together, and that's where Discovering Equestria was born. Instead of making this a story that follows a "discover-explore-relate-bond" kind of formula, to try to put it, I took an ongoing plot in my own series, put the timing to the present (Season 4 of MLP) and made it so that Equestria was discovered without intention, leaving Tails and Cosmo to learn from Twilight and everypony themselves while other parts focus on elements the Taismo series has always had.
Now this might sound confusing but I'll do my best to make it clear. I have so many chapters of my Taismo series mapped out that this arc was originally going to be part of that whenever that time would come, so originally, this was supposed to go up on deviantART first. I was torn between submitting it as a "look into the future" kind of installment for the series and return to where I'm currently at, or wait until I'd eventually make my way to that point. Unfortunately, there have been times in my past when I've forced myself to create chapters, and that just makes me want to stop altogether, so instead of that I decided to start by posting it here for the fandom that inspired me to go ahead with it. Consider the story appearing here as not just a new story among thousands of others, but for those who'd follow my other series, a look at what's to come in the future.
Another matter I'll discuss right now is continuity, and how I have it in two different places. Taismo currently sits where it is that falls about three years behind from where Discovering Equestria takes place. There are also other stories posted on deviantART that look into the future as well (my JAGFests and Taismo Specials). This is because a hiatus slowed me to a grinding halt for months and I let myself gradually build back up to catch up to modern times, so for those who choose to go read Taismo, remember that the timeline from where the story currently is isn't present. But this story, the first between Taismo and MLP, takes place in the first half of Season 4, more specifically the first couple weeks of 2014, so that's the continuity setting for that.
I can't say much more about the series without making any spoilers of what's to come up in the series. What I will say is that you will see what I've worked with and created into my own image displayed outside going in My Little Pony one step at a time, with Tails and Cosmo leading the way of course. Many elements I use for Taismo will be introduced here, and further explored later on.
