Playlist Challenge: Update · 12:13pm May 22nd, 2014
No, I haven't picked a winner yet. As a matter of fact with the playlists I've gotten so far, I'm extending the contest for a little bit. Now if you turn your lists in by 6:00 Friday night, you will be in the running. On SUNDAY MORNING I will announce the winner.
As it turns out you guys are REALLY good at this, to the point where the three and a half lists that have been turned in so far have had different a impacts on me.
And since this is the end of the school year, where prestigious academic awards are handed out, these are some awards for the lists so far. Keep in mind these are not indications of closeness to the prize, they are just meant to be funny.
The "Who the F&$k is Owl City?" Award goes to everyone.
I'm not joking, in every full playlist I've gotten so far there has been a song by a band I've never heard of called "Owl City." Each time it has been a different song. They're far from bad, but were these guys a thing, I just didn't notice?
The Friendship is Abba Award for most Abba put on a single playlist goes to keam.
Apparently when she watches FiM she hears the soundtrack to Momma Mia, go figure.
keam had no less than THREE DIFFERENT ABBA SONGS on her list. Don't get me wrong, I like Abba more than any straight man should. But subject a 20 year old metalhead to that much Abba that close together, and the night doesn't end without an arson.
The "Nailed It" Award for most obvious pick also goes to keam.
Everyone was going to pick a country song for Applejack. That was going to happen, but I should have seen this one coming a mile away.
I have always been a huge fan of Country Queen, and human Shakespearean balcony, Dolly Parton. One of her more upbeat hits, I recently found out was a song called Applejack.

That's..... I really should have seen that coming.
While the "Applejack" described in the song is in my opinion more like Granny Smith than AJ, I get the feeling I can see why your head made the comparison.
The "You're Trolling Me, Right?" Award for most mean-spirited song pick goes to Dragor.
So Dash is your least favorite Mane 6, huh dude?
His pick of "I'm awesome" by Spose for Rainbow Dash, while hilarious, was a little cruel. Strike that it was REALLY cruel. As someone who went through a year where I WAS the guy in that song, it was a little depressing to be honest.
The Kissass Award for most music on a list that I enjoyed goes to Dragor.
From the beginning I said to myself that I wasn't going to take my personal taste into account. The point of this exorcise was to see what different musical tastes than mine came up with when posed this question. It was to see how other bronies and writers viewed these Characters.
That being said, sweet GOD Dragor's list was fun to listen to.
We had a track from the Doctor Who soundtrack, one of my all time favorite guilty pleasure songs (look at his list and guess), Queen (The greatest rock band of all time).....
And when we got to the FOREIGNER you were just sucking up. Do you, like, KNOW me in real life? Have you been spying on me?
The Element of Honesty Award for pick that was most likely to generate downvotes goes to The Princess Rarity.
I used to watch Hannah Montana. The reason? I thought Billy Ray Cyrus was really funny.
I was a rather stupid child.
The one thing I COULDN'T STAND however, was the insipid music. Leaving aside the fact that they all sound god awful, THEY'RE ALL ABOUT HER DOUBLE LIFE AS A POP STAR!!! Way to keep a secret Miley! You got away with this for four years, how again?
It takes a big person to admit she likes something so universally hated. So way to go Toni for picking Miley Cyrus's Ordinary Girl for Twilight Sparkle. While I can see where you're coming from with this pick, it shall not make me enjoy it.
The "This is My Jam" Award for introducing the judge to new great music goes to the Princess Rarity.
I don't know how I lived before Icona pop. All the wasted years......
All Night is a song so amazing it made a Metalhead seek out MORE EDM. Think about that for a minute. Isn't an AC/DC fan searching for synth pop for a reason other than to light the record on fire in the Revelation of St. John somewhere? I think this may be the end of the planet.
It almost made me forget I just listened to Miley Cyrus....

Dude had Megadeth, Black Sabbath, and Metallica and he's only turned in half a list so far.

The "Who?" Award for song assigned to most obscure background pony goes to a black and red alicorn.
He stepped up his game when ABRA sent me a link to a song that he assigned to an animation glitch in the episode Best Night Ever.
It was truly awful.
But I truly appreciate the initiative. (I'm gonna need the rest of that list soon.)

Hey, to be fair, I grew up with Hannah Montana!
And like I said, it's the only song I could think of that really fit Twilight Sparkle. She's a hard character to ace in a single song.
(That's mainly why I loved You'll Play Your Part so much.)
Also, Owl City and Icona Pop are perfection. How did you never hear them before?
To be honest, shooting star is the only song by Owl City that I've ever heard!
I'm Swedish, Abba was from Sweden, we've got a hole freaking Museum about them in Stockholm and the person who is Swedish since at least two generations back in time and don't know about Abba counts as retarded here, so that's my reason!

If possible, I'd like to get rid of my "You're Trolling Me, Right?" award. I knew it wasn't appropriate, but I found it funny because I knew everypony will focus on the positive Rainbow Dash and I wanted to play his insecurities card. We all know there's some play to RD's awesomeness and I wanted to portray it with that song. I'm sorry about that.
If it can be done, I'd like to make up with this Rainbow Dash song:
