Last night.
Wow, last night.
As a lot of you know, I work downtown in Toronto as a security guard. Right now, I'm working night shifts, 12-14 hour ones.
This past week and a bit, I've been using a lot of that time for fanfic. Last night, however, was absolutely amazing, and it might honestly be a night I'll remember for years to come.
You see, right now, there's a festival going on in Toronto. It's called Caribana. In short, it's a Carribean-inspired festival, and currently recognized as the largest in North America.
Tonight, I believe, was the last night, as the parade took place earlier yesterday. Needless to say, local bars got a LOT of business. And the building I work in? Three bars on the first floor. Needless to say, we had probably close to three thousand patrons last night, and it was a pretty uneventful night. Until the bars closed.
See, after the bars closed at 2, everyone still wanted to party.
And so they did.
Close to a few thousand people all poured out of the bars, and they decided to have a street party. It lasted until almost six in the morning, when the last people went home.
It was an amazing experience, just such a night of human togetherness. There was ZERO negativity. No fights, no rough housing, nobody too drunk to act properly. Cars pulled up and blasted their stereos, and everyone danced, talked and laughed the night away.
I met folks from Chicago, folks from Detroit, folks from Florida, folks from New Orleans, folks from Kentucky, folks from New York, folks from just about every province except fuckin' Nunavut and Newfoundland. I met folks from all over, and everyone was just so damn happy to be here.
This isn't the best part of town, I'll be the first to admit it. He'll, I saw someone die in a brawl last year, in the very spot people were dancing last night.
But last night? There wasn't a safer or happier place to be in the entire goddamn world.
Despite the fact that I was at work, I think I can safely say that it was one of the best nights of my life.
I'm happy for ya Stay safe out there.
2339673 Thanks! Will do. I'm just getting off shift now
2339674 Haha, /just/ fixed that as I got your comment
And here I thought security guards were supposed to be assholes that don't party.
It's not often you see such togetherness like that much now a days.
