Fifty bucks says this game sucks as much as the original, but you have to hand it to them; the dead island crew sure knows how to make a video. They should really get into the movie business; I'd pay a LOT to watch their films.
But seriously, what is up with cinematic trailers of video games? Or trailers using Pre-rendered scenes at all? I mean, it might make sense for some especially story-focused games, or the occasional horror game (The Stanley Parable made a demo that didn't have anything to do with the main game, but it worked out because it captured the feel, so I imagine the same would go for trailers), but when I see a trailer I want to see what I might be buying.
THIS is a good trailer. It's got a nice voice over that gives us some context, demonstrates the various enemies and shows us some good gameplay footage. Hell, THIS is a good trailer; it captures the character of the antagonist and some features of the protagonist, while leaving us with many questions. It may not contain any gameplay footage, but it gives us a good idea of what the game will be like, at least in themes. And it gives us an enemy (friend?) to be excited to go up against.
Did I mention that I'm incredibly excited for Far Cry IV? Because I am. I'm really freaking excited for Far Cry IV.
EDIT: Well, it looks like Yager is developing Dead Island 2, not Techland. Which makes me a bit more optimistic - Spec Ops is one of the most memorable games of... Well, of ever - but the thing about Spec Ops is that gameplay-wise, it wasn't much to talk about. And I don't see how they could make Dead Island INTERESTING, story-wise, so that's... Probably out of the picture. Still, it's YAGER. They might be able to salvage this.
