In progress works · 10:04am Nov 11th, 2014

Apart from Bad Mondays I do have other works and hobbies. Not counting games and reading books in real life (my embarassingly large collection of Warhammer novella for example) I run a forum game involving nine people that is quite intensive and been involved in several other forum games as a drop-in-drop-out co-GM and long time player for the better part of a year and a half (they're pretty fucking in depth RPs, which is hilarious when you consider how bare bones they were at the beginning). My current record was GMing a grand strategy forum game that involved, at its peak, thirty people. There was an awful lot of war...

I used to do flash animation and comics, I am a terrible artist and it has been yonks since I put cursor to canvas, (yes I drew with a mouse even though I have a tablet, I am a stubborn bastard that way), and I have never written as much since I came to fimfic. Here's a snippet of the things I am working on besides BM:

Horrorfic from the perspective of Diamond Tiara:
Status: Cancelled and deleted.
Description: More of an experiment prior to the darker moments in BM, the fic involved ponies across Equestria disappearing, a nationwide lockdown as the guards were deployed. Then the guards started to disappear. Then the princess. And slowly everyone she knew including her beloved dad leaving only her, alone, in the upstairs of Rarity's boutique, writing her last thoughts on a piece of paper as the only candle left in Ponyville slowly goes out and the things in the darkness waiting just beyond the hallway door looking in at her, formless nameless things of silence and death that she could neither name nor make sense of. It was told from a first person perspective as I slowly broke Tiara down as she began accepting her fate towards the end. I suck at first person perspectives and wasn't happy with the fic, so I deleted it.

Humans are Superior fic:
Tags: Dark, Comedy, Adventure, Alternate Universe, Human
Status: Ongoing. Unpublished. Nearing 30k words.
Description: The humour of this one is in the vain of Bad Mondays and the tech level is around the same; renaisance era with some schizo tech. People of the Humans are Superior group volunteer themselves to appear in this fic. I murder them horribly. More of a way for me to relax in private and to screw with HAS members from the skype group, although for some reason when I told JBL about this he was disturbed.
"Am I editing for a burgeoning serial killer here or something?" - Jay Theodore Bee Ell
Honestly, I don't know whats wrong with some people...

Shortbeak Chapter, Bad Mondays, 100 Followers celebration fic:
Tags: -Bonus Chapter of BM-
Status: In planning, which means I have a vague idea and I am likely to be digging through my playlist for something to listen to while writing.
Description: It is a chapter about Shortbeak. Canonically solid. Rejoice.

Lyra Chapter, Bad Mondays, 100 Followers celebration fic:
Tags: -Bonus Chapter of BM-
Status: In planning, which means I have a vague idea and I am likely to be digging through my playlist for something to listen to while writing.
Description: It is a chapter about Lyra and her shenanigans in BM. Canonically dubious and optional just like the last one. Rejoice?

Handy and the Mirrorpool Chapter, Bad Mondays, 100 Followers celebration fic:
Tags: -Bonus Chapter of BM-
Status: In planning, which means I have a vague idea and I am likely to be digging through my playlist for something to listen to while writing.
Description: It is a chapter about Handy and the Mirrorpool in BM. Canonically superfluous. Rejoice.

Twilight and Applejack discuss the price of a mile, original one shot fic, 100 Followers celebration fic:
Tags: Dark, Tragedy
Status: 2k words in. No JBL you can't see it yet, this is your prize, no getting it before Christmas buddy.
Description: Twilight and Applejack discuss the needs of the many vrs the needs of the few over Big Mac's death in a recent war effort.

Mac'ing a scene, (working title), one shot
Tags: -TBD- but likely comedy
Status: A twinkle in the eye
Description: Changelings kidnap Big Macintosh and practice various interrogation techniques on him. It goes about as well as you'd expect.

Untitled, HiE fic, likely multi-chapter
Tags: Dark, Comedy, Adventure, Alternate Universe, Romance?
Status: 7k words into the first chapter.
Description: Know what we need more of? Human Females in Equestria. Know what I need more practice with? Female characters and the female perspective. Know what I hate? Those fics where a canon character age regresses and is sent to earth to be raised by random human 34-A. Know what I also hate? Human dying and going to Equestria, usually for no adequately explained metaphysical reason. Know what I also hate? Human being in effective slavery to a pony, usually for a very poor reason.

Challenge Accepted.

Essentially a young woman makes a very poorly thought out deal with an otherworldly being in order to set her family up for life and to save her brother from a life crippling illness. She is promptly killed and her soul now belongs to the being, bound to the contract she signed and can no longer pass through to the afterlife, she is now a commodity in the being's collection. Equestria is now going through a new craze: Summoning. A young, burgeoning filly of a destitute noble house with dreams of magedom tries her hoof at the practice and fails miserably, only summoning a piece of paper she cannot read... which drags the ghost bound to it to her world. Now she, her imaginary ghost human friend and a crotchety old butler go through equestria seeking fame and fortune. They fight crime and solve mysteries while avoiding the wrath of a very angry otherworldly spirit who did not take kindly to a fucking pony stealing his shit out from under him.

I also need more practice writing cute and fluffy shit, I am surprisingly terrible at that despite writing about ponies. Likely to never see the light of day.

Fallout Equestria -Subtitle pending-
Tags: Sex, Gore, Dark, Adventure, Alternate Universe, Crossover, Comedy
Status: 7k words into the first chapter
Description: I've been on a fallout binge recently, and took to reading Project Horizons as well. I write this fic from time to time to get the sci-fi urges out of my system. I have serious problems with the established Fallout Equestria canon as established by Kkat but I am more than willing to use it as established canon and a foundation for this story. My major challenges with this are quite hard to overcome, to keep true to fashion I am writing it in the first person perspective and I KEEP FINDING MYSELF SLIPPING INTO THE THIRD, DAMNIT. Another challenge is how I am going to tackle this fic, make needed references to familiar canon and draw parallels to the real life fallout series. The problem being is that there have been so many fics, that the biggest ones in particular have already dealt with the majority of the things I could just lift wholesale from the fallout series (everything from FoE:PH's Unity, to the New Canterlot Republic to the Zebrican 'remnants' to the enclave to the steel rangers, etc, etc, etc), meaning if I am to write a Fallout Equestria fic worth a damn, I am going to have to introduce an awful lot of original content and conflicts. Which is great for a standalone fic but FO:E fans would probably not enjoy it as much. There's also the difficulty that Equestria is 'fixed' by the end of Kkat's fic (which I am not going to contradict), meaning I have a limited period of in canon time to have the fic take place, unless I decide to start it earlier in the timeline, which pretty much dooms the story to canon because I can't change too much in order to keep with the rule of non-contradiction. Start it too late and it won't even feel like a fallout fic.

And you guys know from experience that I am a wordy bastard for an Irishman so anything I write is going to be ludicrously detailed. I know Kkat doesn't wish to have anyone feel constrained by canon he established but, well, thats where I find myself none the less. This fic is my attempt to take a fresh look at the genre (which is impossible in and of itself in many respects but you guys know what I mean). Also, I have noticed that the Fallout Equestria Fics are dark. Like really dark. Stygian dark. As in darker than the original fucking series.

Guys, I love you, but would it fucking kill you to lighten up? Don't get me wrong, I love me some grimdark, I was practically raised on the stuff, it helps me sleep at night dreaming sweet dreams of humble Imperial Guardsmen fighting impossible odds against the inevitble and unstoppable and unknowable horrors of the universe in a futile gesture of defiance. But for the love of God this is fallout. Fallout with ponies. You're allowed to be silly and stupid. Thats why, as dark as this is definitely going to be, this fic is aiming more for the Comedic Sociopathy present in the fallout universe rather than pure grimdark. Expect many references.

If I write this its going to be quite a challenge. And you know how I feel about challenges. That being said, this is another fic unlikely to see the light of day.

Untitled Clopfic

Description: No, JBL. I will not write a clopfic just because you dared me to.

So that's my plate, hows yours looking?

If it helps, you don't really need to use first person in FoE, one of the best stories I have seen, "Fallout Equestria: Foreigner" is on third person.

As for me, I'm also trying to write in first person... It's proving harder than I expected...

JBL

Don't be another one to crap out a Fallout Equestria fic, Handyman. Don't sink to that level. It's beyond salvageable.

That being said, this is another fic unlikely to see the light of day.

Calm your tits.

2588093 Dammit, I was just working up to a perfect frothing at the mouth rage. Thanks a lot. Dick.

Needs more lighter fluid and hairspray. -0/10 - IGN

... Well the comment on the HAS fic has me properly worried up again. :raritydespair:

Other than that... Wow. You've got a lot on your plate there, mate. And you went with writing the other story prompts as well! ... While I like that, it seems to have dropped another bomb on you, in terms of 'Handy's things to do.'.

(my embarassingly large collection of Warhammer novella for example)

You’re not alone on this one, heck I have been in the warhammer hobby since the start of the 4th edition of 40k. If you haven’t read The Talon of Horus by Aaron Dembski-Bowden yet then I highly recommend it if you liked his Night Lords trilogy. Oh and GMing sure is >fun right? I’m GMing a Black Crusade campaign right now myself. Also take your time man, we aren’t going anywhere and will still be here when you feel that your works are ready to be shared with the rest of us.

2588103 Oh I'm sorry, here, let me just publish this FO:E fic and get you riled up again =]

2587984 Its really difficult, I'm too used to writing Bad Mondays in my case with its odd approach to conversational third person narration. You'd think it'd be easy to adapt but it isn't, writing the character as if you were the character (and not as if the character were you) is a weird mental leap to make.

2588218 Nope.

2589057 Handy's things to do? What do you mean?

2589548 GMing is pretty fun, but its exhausting, more than one game I ran has collapsed due to GM fatigue. And unfortunately I have not read the Night Lords trilogy, so I have no real frame of reference for the Talon of Horus.

2589693
That’s why I said >fun hehe, but in all seriousness I know the feeling quite well and I do agree that it's really fun but quite draining sometimes. As for not having read the books that’s a shame there really good and I highly recommend that you pick them up if you ever get the chance.

2589693

Well, your IRL stuff on top of whatever literary horse-words you were doing. Just seems like you have a lot of stuff you're doing.

2589693 Yep, one of the best things about third-person, is the liberty that comes with it. It allows us to describe things inside and outside the character's perspective, as well as to jump inside their minds whenever necessary. First-person, however, is almost like placing chains on yourself, forcing you to only present things from the eyes of one or more characters, while also having to add their own thoughts and feelings into the writing in order to feel more realistic.

The only story that I'm writing on first-person, at the moment, took months of carefull edit and attention to learn the very basics of making something somewhat decent... but if other stories I've read are anything to go by, first-person can be perfect when you want to show the deep thoughts and complexity of a character.

2589693 I see I have overstayed my welcome. *slips away*
