Blog post: first in a while · 5:22am Nov 28th, 2014
Hello
It's been quite some time since I've made a blog post, and I should have made this much sooner. For all intents and purposes I've been dead to the site for coming up on three months soon. I haven't edited any stories, and I haven't put out any knew chapters. Heck, I haven't even done any one shots. I'm not dead though, and it may be for the best to put out a little update and explain my situation a little more.
Ongoing Stories.
Collateral:
This is the big one. I really should have been long finished a good five or six chapters by now, except for one thing. I am stuck on one chapter of the story. In fact, looking at the google docs file of all the unused edits and ideas I have had, there are 25,000 words. Yet, I only feel comfortable with ~1000 of them. In many ways the story is the most difficult of them for me to write, because of how much I have improved. There are so many ideas I would have done differently or better, but I'm not turning back. That is not happening. For better or for worse, I will finish the story to the absolute best of my abilities. And I will be damned if I don't at least have a few chapters by Christmas.
Dreamscape:
On the opposite end of the spectrum of Collateral, I'm having quite an easy time writing Dreamscape. Currently working through chapter 5 of the story (good 7500 word chapters) but under advisement from one of my editors, I'm going to be holding off on any updates for a while yet. It makes it possible to go back and change things, and then you are guaranteed a good release schedule.
Adversity:
I'll be honest here. I don't think I will be working on this story in it's current form any more. It is the oldest story I have written, and the idea predates a number of other drafts even before the first story I published here. The problem? I never thought the idea through. There are plenty of good ideas which I can guarantee I will be using in another story, but in it's current form, Oak Leaf will have no more of his story told. That being said, I will be holding off on officially cancelling it until I am absolutely sure. There is no reason to can an idea unless there is truly nothing more to be had of it.
Let Them Eat Cake Oneshots:
The rest of the mane six and Princess Luna do have stories in the works with the exception of Twilight Sparkle (for lack of inspiration). These are boiling away, but I'm not going to force anything out of them. Most likely either Pinkie Pie or Princess Luna will be the next one. It's all about the right mindset though.
Now, onto what else I have been toying with. These are largely story ideas which I had to get down on paper. Preliminary titles.
False Titles
This is the story which some of the ideas from Adversity have slowly begun to funnel into. Set in the Crystal Empire, it is based around the remains of Sombra's rule: his guards. No individual could control so many alone no matter how strong, and the story explores this while keeping in tune with the rising political situation. It is never made clear whether the Crystal Empire is it's own place or part of Equestria, and nothing is said on whether the crystal ponies are happy with the change; one ruler was placed with another. Then, just to top it off, if Sombra were to reappear and start pulling strings... Well...
As a story, there are just two rough ~4000-5000 words chapter. I may pursue it further after finishing other projects.
A Prince's Defense
One shot. Based around Prince Blueblood and Twilight Sparkle. Blueblood ruins Twilight's opportunity to give funding to promote magic lessons for foals. Outraged, she confronts Celestia who tells Twilight that she shouldn't always take what she sees at face value, and asks her to go speak to Blueblood. Though her initial expectations are validated, she quickly realizes the reasons are different than those she expected. To survive politics in Canterlot, one must have a defence.
About 2000-3000 words. No where near a complete rough draft.
Heretic
Something I just came up with recently. It is never really said what happened to Starswirl the Bearded, but what if he didn't just vanish from the spotlight, but fled from it? When Tinder, a young historian from Canterlot, and Twilight come across a new clue, it sets off all sorts of questions. The truth, however, seems almost wilfully sealed away. But is it because the findings were dangerous spells or simply dangerous ideas?
Couple thousand words, nothing more
So yeah, that's largely it a the moment. Work has been constant and difficult, but I'll try to make some headway into the stories over the coming days. Sorry for my absence.
