So, I have an idea for a side story to No Gods. I know, I know. No Gods has three chapters plus the prologue. So I REALLY need to get to work on writing some content for the MAIN story before I get into a side story. But I like this idea. Basically, there are things I've thought of, or will need to think of in the future, for the AU that I don't really have a good way to convey in the main story. (The big one is Spike's place in the world. Seriously, it's important to the current state of things in the story and I'm not sure I can squeeze Spike into the main story on any level.)
So I would call this thing "No Gods, No Rainbooms." It would be a collection of shorts about what each of the Mane 6 and other characters have been up to in the AU. (For those that have scene the movie version of Repo! The Genetic Opera, think something like how every time they introduce anyone there's a short animated bit explaining their backstory. Except the animated bits are their own story.) Basically I would write a chapter of it every time I introduce a character who would require some explaining in the main story, plus a chapter whenever I can think of something juicy for the world at large that might not gel with the main story's narrative. So with what I can think off the top of my head, that would be obviously the Mane 6, Spike, then maybe Sunset Shimmer, Chrysalis and the changelings, Discord, and maybe some (very) brief explanations of other nations' histories.
Good idea? Bad idea?
Seems like a useful tool. Would probably have to link in Author's notes for the appropriate chapters.

Seconded. It's important to write what you're passionate about and tell the story you want to tell.
