Why I'm very glad I still post on FIMFiction · 5:17am Mar 1st, 2015
Not really a pony post, so feel free to ignore this unless you like seeing authors whine.
I post on some sites that have gotten really reactionary ever since Gamergate. I also post on some sites that have historically been relatively progressive. Lately, it feels like the reactionary sites are like:
"You lost your arm in a chainsaw accident? Big deal. I'm sure you're just as fine with one arm as I am with two. You're just whining because you want people to pass you the salt instead of getting up to grab it with your other hand."
And all the progressive sites are like:
"You lost your arm in a chainsaw accident? Big deal. I had my arms and legs cut off by a terrorist militia. Stop trying to co-opt the quadriplegic movement by folding your own lesser problems into it."
FIMFiction and Mythic Scribes are the only sites I hang out on that seem to be immune to this, and I thank everything sacred for you guys. You're keeping me, if not sane, at least a lot saner than I otherwise would be.
Edit: To hell with it, I'll copy-paste the post that prompted this. I feel like it's necessary to explain why I posted.
"I'm the one who called you disgusting, and I stand by it at the time. I'm sorry it offended you, but when you're presenting and acting like Cis-gendered Heteromantic/A-romantic Hetero-leaning-whatevers have to deal with anything close to what LGBTQ have to deal with for their sexuality/gender, it disgusts me.
"Let me put this in perspective for you. When I see Demis on tumblr, who for all purposes are straight, act like they're "afraid" to come out to their parents, and I think back to cases like Matthew Shepard who was found with a face covered in blood, save for the parts that were washed away by his own fucking tears I get angry. I didn't know you were Bi, which if you had simply said, "Yo, I'm Bi", it wouldn't have escalated."
(For the record, I don't identify as any of the identities this person listed by name, including bisexual.)
Good to see you posting still. My sympathies: as a progressive, this makes me facepalm
2839824 And you have my thanks for the support. I get so wound up and wound up, and exploding just winds me up even more--"Oh my God, they must think I'm a total asshole for posting this thing! Why did I post this thing?" Tonight, I thought I'd finally conquered that because I stopped caring what folks on another site thought, and yet here I am with a stress headache because I terrified myself thinking I'd offend people on FIMFiction with this post.
(In case it's not obvious, I've been waiting several days for my antidepressant prescription to be refilled.)
There is a marked dearth of niceness on the Internet. I'm glad to see we're correcting that to some small extent.
Glad you have some places where you feel comfortable, at least. And I'm glad that one of them's here, too. Here's hoping it stays that way!
