Octavia Melody apparently plays the cello. Apparently is the key word here, hold onto your panties. See, the way she plays her instrument, it should in fact be a double bass. The cello is played sat down, and the double-bass is played standing due to its size. So we've established that.
You likely know this already, but Octavia is heavily shipped with Vinyl Scratch, a.k.a. DJ PON-3. Probably the most recognised element of modern electronic music is the bass drop, in which the lower-octave instruments/synthesisers suddenly play loud enough to the point of being exaggerated.
Octavia's first appearance is in the season one finale episode The Best Night Ever, wherein she plays as part of a string quartet. However, she falls over after Pinkie Pie tries to get her to play the Pony Pokey increasingly faster, dropping her cello. The thing is, though, it isn't a cello.
That's right. You guessed it.
Octavia dropped the bass.
Yeah, except she's a little pony, so she'd need to stand up to play a big instrument like a cello.

Haven't they just made the instruments smaller? All the other instruments seem to be in proportion to the size of the ponies - in fact, the harp is slightly smaller than it should be. even with the pony's size taken into account.
