Rewrote my OC Bio- Now with more details! · 6:06pm May 13th, 2015

Please, don't be prejudiced. Read my personal bio before claiming my OC had no effort put into him. And please note that I did not do a 'dark past' because it's 'cool'. I only did it because I have had a dark past, too, and DuskShadow was originally made when I was still in my darkest days.

Initially, I know the first reaction I will get will be along the lines of:
1. Alicorn OC! Automatically bad! All Alicorns are bad!
2. Magic-based OC! Automatically bad! Alicorns/Unicorns using magic is bad!
3. Dark/Depressed OC! Automatically bad! Depression doesn't exist!

Well, I know this is because most people don't believe that effort can be put into Alicorn OCs. I spent over a year developing his personality and backstory, though. If you're going to spend the time to read my OC bio... thank you. Truly.

Well, here it is. You still reading? Thank you, again.

Dusk Shadow was formerly known as Charcoal Dust. Charcoal Dust was Prince in a far-off Kingdom known as the Obsidian Empire, a volcanic reagion, ruled over by Ebony Shard, a tyrannical King. Charcoal does not actually have black fur, it's a light blue-gray, but years around volcanic ash and smoke caused the dust to cling to his fur, giving him a false appearance of a darker coat. The dust is stuck so well to his fur, that normal baths won't get all the ash out. Due to the fact that he served as a magic amplifier for his father, his growth was stunted, and appears as no more than four years old in size. However, he trained himself in combat starting from five years of age, and at six years, he challenged his father for the throne. He was done being abused, and wanted to stand up for himself. Needless to say, he was catastrophically defeated, being nowhere near strong enough, and banished from the Obsidian Empire. In the battle, his right wing was damaged beyond repair.

He fled the Obsidian Empire, and a few months later, found himself in Everfree. He continued his combat training against the wild animals there. He started his own research on magic combat, delving into dark magic, as it was more properly suited for combat needs. However, his focus was always on new developments, not optimizing his current ones, causing his magic to grow powerful, but very unstable, and hard for him to control properly.
About a year in the Everfree Forest, after living alone, a Royal Guard patrol was checking out the forest for reports of unusual sightings. They were attacked by some strong Timberwolves, barely able to hold up against the seemingly endless pack.

Charcoal Dust, who was near, decided to intervene, using Wild Magic, where he forcefully expelled magic in an AoE (Area of Effect) attack. He then fought alongside the Guard, and eventually managed to scare off the pack with them. However, the Wild Magic technique was too strong for his young body, and he fell unconscious. The Royal Guard took him back to Canterlot for treatment, where they explained to Princess Luna what happened. When he woke up, Princess Luna thanked him for assisting the Guard.

As Charcoal Dust had been alone all this time, he wasn't sure how to react to this, retaining his silence. Luna continued attempting to communicate with him, trying to get his name, origin, and eventually, tried something else. She offered him a position among the Royal Guard as a trainee. As he had a strong mental drive to protect others, he accepted after some hesitation, and began training immediately after he recovered. It was then Luna bestowed upon him a new name: Dusk Shadow. Luna oversaw his development as a mother figure, making sure he wouldn't cause too much trouble.

A few years later, despite his young age and tiny size, he had moved up to the Elite ranks of the guards, his strengths using his small size for speed, and his high levels of magic for attack. However, his defense and stamina both were very low, and he could not take many hits or last long in battle at all. He decided to go back to researching magic after this, taking up a quiet side job in the Magical Research and Development department, set into the combat magic subdepartment. This continued for many years on.

After serving loyally in the Royal Guard for over a century, and having made several breakthroughs in combat magic, he was presented an ultimate offer: A place in the Royal Family as a Prince. Dusk Shadow immediately declined, not wanting a position of power, especially not wanting to be called Royalty. However, Luna talked to him again, convincing him that he could better protect others in that position. Reluctantly, he accepted, and spoke for the first time in a long time, saying "I trust you, Princess Luna." After that, despite being soft-spoken, he talked on a fairly regular basis.

Despite his new status, he refused any formalities, and insisted people address him informally. As a Prince, he never actually used his power, other than to form his own personal guard unit after he was promoted to a Royal Guard Captain. The unit was as follows:
- Pure Heart- Healer, Unicorn, white body, golden eyes and mane
- Boulder- Close Combat, Buffalo, light brown body
- Eclipse- Stealth, Threstal, dark blue body, gray-blue wings, green eyes
- C2- Espionage, Changeling, white body, golden wings and eyes
- Snow Wing- Speed, Griffon, gray body, white wings and head

Dusk smithed himself some new weapons: The Heart and Soul Blades, one a jet-black, the other a bright blue. The black Heart blade came out broken, but the blue Soul blade was full and strong. It was soon after this that he realized his talent was his dark magic, and a solitary blue star vortex appeared as his Cutie Mark. He then smithed himself some magic restrictor bands, which allowed him to focus and control his magic better.

Dusk Shadow often acted very serious, and independent, but it was clear to his personal unit that he enjoyed being with them, often taking his research material to their barracks, just to be with them. Eventually, he moved their quarters close to his room, giving them each a room in the castle. He often sparred with them, to train their abilities and his own.
Dusk Shadow wants to defeat his father one day, so he can end the tyranny, and nightmares he has every night about his father. However, he knows he is not powerful enough. The drive that he has to protect others is the reason he spends countless hours in combat training and research, with little rest.

However, because of his insecurities of not being strong enough to protect others, the Nightmare Miasma was easily able to whisper sweet lies to him, saying that it could give him the strength he needed to protect others. He allowed the Nightmare Miasma into his body, and quickly lost control. His personal unit managed to defeat the being that was using his body, that called itself Night Shade. Dusk Shadow, realizing that he could utilize this for combat, and wanting to research it, sealed it within his own body. At times, he can call upon Night Shade for assistance in combat, seeing as Night Shade could control magic power very well, and made a few new developments, including the Energy Wings spell, where a thin wing of pure magic would stem from the damaged wing for flight. However, Dusk Shadow refrained from using this, being afraid of heights. He would occasionally use it to glide short distances, though.

He's reluctant to trust others, or accept help from anyone. He says that fun is unproductive and a waste of time, but despite that, those close to him can tell that he enjoys spending time and having fun with others. Over the years, from being around his friends and companions, he grew slightly less cynical, and more cheerful, adopting a slight mischievous streak from Eclipse, who often played pranks on him and the rest of his unit.

Friendship and trust in others changed the cynical, independent, and harsh Charcoal Dust into a slightly more trusting and very caring Dusk Shadow. Dusk Shadow eventually took a deep fur cleansing, to rid his body of the ash that was caked into his fur, regaining his blue-gray coat. He no longer identifies with the Obsidian Empire, other than saying he must be the one to take down the King. But he has told his personal unit that he knows he cannot do it alone, and when the day comes, he will depend on them for their help.
