All I can say is the Equality Act 2011/2010- makes it illegal to discriminate on race/colour/relgion/marriage/GENDER/age/ect ect
that is horrible. it's one thing if the university is ligitimately that gender only (I.E. a girls only school or male only school) but that's just wrong in this case.
