I've been busy

So, with the extended time between rounds of the Writeoff, I finally broke into my backlog. It's been a few months since I've published anything from the Writeoff entry list, mostly because I was too busy writing new entries.

I've still got a lot of work to clear everything out, and I probably won't get around to publishing everything, but there were a few stories I wanted to touch up and get out there.

Caste Off is the first up. This story originally came out to mixed reviews. Some people liked the idea, but hated the way I presented it. Others though it was too cliche. I'm a suck for redemption stories, but I tend to rush things. The main idea with this story is that it somehow fit within the scope of the show, possibly fitting into a standard episode run time. I like writing stories this way. Sorry if it comes across feeling rushed.

The other thing people had a problem with was the voice of the main character. I tried to change that up a bit, but the voice in my head stuck. The voice that she has in the story is the voice that I hear when I picture the character. She may be young, but hopefully her training and experiences make up for her age with regard to her voice. The point I wanted to make was that she didn't really have a childhood, and by the end of the story, perhaps is able to recapture some of that lost innocence.

Anyway, the whole idea of mixing princesses, changelings, and the CMC into one crazy story really gelled with me. Hopefully it hits enough triggers with people on fimfiction that it breaks into the feature box. Who knows, people might actually like that kind of stuff.
