Slight delay · 1:04am Jul 25th, 2015

The next Chapter of Harmony Theory is going to be slightly delayed. I've got it to my pre-readers, but the insomnia I mentioned in the previous blog post really cut into my writing ability recently.

I expect the next chapter to be available either sunday or monday, depending on how quickly my editors devour it and how many changes I have to make.

Until then, I hope you all enjoy what I've written!

Oh no a slight delay for the next update which for other authors would be a longer story on its own. :rainbowlaugh:

Well if you’re having major insomnia here’s some stuff that may help. I’ll admit it’s all from the internet, but I’ve had my own sleeping problems and run the whole circuit.

Figure out if there is a psychological issue or a physical issue that’s making it hard for you to sleep and try and take steps to deal with it. Admittedly physical is usually a hell of a lot easier to deal with than psychological barring some major physical injury that’s keeping you awake from the pain, but…well, if you don’t deal with the root cause in SOME way, things wont get better.

That said, here’s some tips for the physical junk.

1. Make sure all lights and everything is off in your bedroom. I know a lot of people have their computers and junk in their bedrooms, but even the little lights that you just cant turn off tell your brain to stay awake and active. Cover them up or something.

2. If you can, actually just move that junk out of your bedroom and make it just for sleeping. This is more psychological than physical, as your brain will on several levels as a place to play games, watch TV and basically be active, making it harder for it to switch to shutdown mode.

3. Since from your story its pretty obvious you’re in Canada, you probably don’t have this problem, but make sure your room is about 15-18 degrees Celsius for the right kind of atmosphere. If you don’t like it that cold, actually get blankets and use them to keep most of your body as warm as you want while breathing in the cooler air.

4. Do not read before trying to go to sleep. The idea that reading makes your yes tired and this makes you sleep is utter bullshit. The idea comes from the fact that people who read and do this are usually lounging on the couch and putting pressure on the back of their neck, which causes a reaction.

5. In fact, your best not to think about anything! I know we fanfiction guys are usually day dreaming about whatever we can 24/7, but once again the less active your brain is, the better. If you absolutely have to think about something, try mentally playing out a scene from your fanfiction in your head where the characters are laying down for some sleep and talk for a bit before they actually nod off. This will actually help prepare to switch your brain for sleep mode rather than the reading of a book here the characters are up and walking around, especially if you’re an immersion type of reader.

6. And if you absolutely HAVE to use drugs, start with something natural like chamomile tea and some extended release melatonin pills/drops.

Hope that helps

Any period of waiting is worth it for your writing. Hope you get the sleep you deserve.

Yuck, insomnia's the worst. Not getting enough sleep can really wreck an entire day. Have you tried going on a long walk? Some moderate exercise can help with insomnia, as long as you don't do it just before you go to bed.

As always, I'm really looking forward to another chapter of Harmony Theory!

I'm still somewhat behind on your story, and the chapters are quite lengthy. So be as delayed as you'd like. Please. :twilightsheepish:

I actually do keep most electronics out of my bedroom (no tv, no computer), use blackout curtains on the windows to cut light, etc. Sadly, the temperature in Ottawa is a pretty warm right now. Low of 19c tonight, for example. I've got AC, but not in my bedroom because it causes other problems trying to sleep there. Sometimes, even doing everything right doesn't work.

On the plus side, I've been sleeping well enough for the past few days, so hopefully the problem has passed for now.

I just hit AJ's resurection I'm willing to wait a bit longer.
