The Animals of Farthing Wood · 8:33pm Jul 31st, 2015
This isn't an MLP-related post, but it occurs to me that lots of people are gushing over things like Steven Universe and RWBY, but when did you last see anyone do a blind commentary on a European cartoon? We have been known to make the odd bit of animation on this side of the Atlantic! Buc Reviewer did some good (but non-blind) commentaries on The Animals of Farthing Wood several years ago, but that's about all I can find. I'd love someone to do a blind commentary on that cartoon, actually, since it's an unfairly forgotten series. Even if no one does that, and I certainly don't have the ability, motivation or patience for such things, I'm still going to recommend that people watch The Animals of Farthing Wood. It's a bit of a slow burner, partly due to its age (early-mid 1990s), but really rather good once you get into it.
I heard of it years ago, and wanted to see it, but never found a source. Where can I get it?
3285340 It's very easy to find on YouTube, but as far as official copies are concerned: there's a DVD box set. It's a German production, and the box and menus are in German only (I think), but there's an English-language soundtrack which has the original English VAs. Here's the Amazon UK listing.

Thank you! I'll go look it up!
It is no exaggeration to say that AoFW was my most beloved childhood show. Even now I can still recall the tingly thread of faint horror that I used to feel when watching it, which doesn't exactly sound like an endorsement I know, but it was so atmospheric to me at the time. Every week without fail I'd be in front of the TV to watch the latest episode.
I have watched a bit of it since my childhood, and you know, it does come across as a little hokey nowadays and the animation isn't very good, but for me it was always about following a group of characters who I really wanted to succeed on a terrifyingly and life-threateningly dangerous journey, week by week. It's basically Battlestar Galactica with woodland creatures.
A blind reaction to the uncensored version of AoFW (I assume they must censor it these days?) would be amazing, I'd love to see that too.

I believe the German/English DVD I mentioned to iisaw is the full, uncensored version, so that would be the obvious source. I don't know about the various bits that exist online.
Oh, yes! I saw several episodes years and years ago at ConFurence, and was quite taken with it. It didn't hurt that I was the token colonial in a room with three Brits, all of whom loved it. I need to try to track that down again.
