Let's Talk About Lyrabon · 7:06pm Aug 15th, 2015
If you haven't seen the short that prompted this blog, here it is.
Now, let's get some things straight. I have no problems with same-sex relations, and think same-sex marriage should be legal. Further, my two favorite ships for this fandom are FlutterDash and SunLight. I came into the fandom during the S3-S4 hiatus, so I missed the start of the fandom during S1 and S2, but I know now that Lyrabon is a thing. I don't read Lyrabon fics, but if you ship them, go ahead, no problem. Lyrabon is not the problem. The problem is the showrunners' response to it.
Rainbow Rocks was kinda "whoa, they did that." Then we got Slice of Life, which was fun. Then we got Luna's ep with the Cat-Dog Lyrabon, and that raised an eyebrow. Now you bring us this short.
Lyrabon is becoming a one-note joke to the showrunners, which is to nudge us and wink "best friends." We get it, they're lesbians and you either can't or won't say so because of the moral guardians. You're making Fang and Vanille look subtle. The hooked arms is one thing, but then you close out the episode with the heart iris?
I don't care if the showrunners are gonna depict them as a romantic couple, or just best friends who maybe are a bit too close. Either way, stop waving it in our faces. It's killing any potential interest I ever had in the two. If they're friends, they have them just be friends and stop teasing maybe there's something more there. If they're a couple, just go for the gusto and have them a couple. I don't mean you have to have them kiss on-screen, but just write them from the point "yes, they're together and are more than just friends."
At this point it's just teasing, how close can you get to making it canon without making it canon. Knock it off. It's getting embarassing.
Pause the video at 1:08 and play this:
There is nothing wrong with teasing.
3321833 Yes there is; too much of it and it gets annoying. Think of when the camera zoomed in on Scootaloo's flank at the end of Flight to the Finish. Now imagine they did that two more times that season and two times this season.
The problem with taking the catdog thing as proof of 'shipping' is that people forget that the eponymous cat and dog where brothers.
They could be the sister the other didn't have, for instance.

That actually makes more sense to me in the context of this short: they're bestest friends.. Until they get in each other's way

The one main... complaint about the show was that Dog was a great jerk to his brother, once even causing the house to burn down, and never once got hit by the consequences of his actions. There was the teeth thing, but he draggedCat down with him in the first place.

Well, it's just your opinion. You can't speak for everypony. It isn't annoying for me, so this argument is invalid.
I have no problem with that.
I can understand the annoyance, but it really doesn't seem like a big deal to me. I am kinda glad they got attention, maybe a bit much all at once, but I'm still glad. Just my opinion on it.
Forget the shipping. I just want to know what the fuck I watched. Like...what?
