    I'm Sorry

I've spent so much time whining about my own petty little problems over the last couple of days when there are people I care about with actual problems. I'm giong to try and stop. I promised myself that even though I've failed myself and dissappointed many people around me, I will do everything in my power to make sure no one else is left alone. It is a horrible feeling that no one else should

NOVA RANTS ABOUT STUFF: THE MUSIC INDUSTRY · 10:33am Aug 28th, 2015

In honor of my, once again, breaking even on my followers:following ratio, I'm gonna start doing rant blogs. (Plus, I've seen a bunch of people doing it... Be warned, my limiters and filters may be off during some of these, so excuse my French in advance! Feel free to leave comments and thoughts on my thoughts. This all just my opinion and I'd actually love to hear your thoughts on the topics.

Today: the degradation of the music industry!

It's there. We all see it. But it's as if everyone is waiting for someone else to say or do something about it (partly guilty:twilightblush:)!

So first, there's the lyrics. Before, music was about love and life, lessons to be learned, or just to explain the beauty of something. Now it's all about pussy, money, and weed (for those of you who don't know, that's an actual song!). Now it's all about how much money you have, how you blow it, how many girls wanna be one your dick (in the case of male artists), how much dope you got... what? Why the hell should I care if you want to fuck Rihanna or throw her in front of a train (second part, again, from an actual song!)? And now, you can't listen to a popular song without any foul language, toilet humor, or sex-related jokes. I can't listen to a hip hop song now without hearing "fuck" for longer than 30 seconds, a minute if I'm lucky! And now, artists use it to diss other people. I respect Eminem, but the stuff he's done with his songs to diss Kim and his parents... am I the only one that caught those? I hope not.

Then there's music videos. They're supposed to interpret the song with a sort of story (like Love the Way Tou Lie by Eminem, feat. Rihanna), or just to give it an awesome look (like All the Right Moves, by One Republic, which I must say, was an amazing idea), or even to teach you how to dance (Teach Me How to Jerk, by New Boys, Shawty Get Loose, by Chris Brown, feat. DJ Khalid and Lil' Mama). It's supposed to give visual meaning and application to the song. Now, it's about guys rolling in money and fancy cars, dancing with half-naked girls, half-naked girls dancing, getting high, fuck the system, and a bunch of other messed up stuff. You can't find a decent hip-hop music video that doesn't have its very own Twerk Team nowadays! Now, some of you may be thinking, "You're a teenage guy. Shouldn't you be into half-naked girls bouncing their asses in your face?" or, "Who doesn't want to have that much money? Wouldn't you show it off like that?" To answer, respectively, maybe I should be. Admittedly, I won't always turn it down if it happens, but I have what many guys in our generation lack: self control. And yes, I would love to have that much cash/mullah/dinero/ka-ching, but I'm not gonna show it off to the world and rub it in everyone's face!

This new generation of music has changed people. Obvious examples being Miley Cyrus and Justin Beiber. They went from Hannah Montana and prettyboy baby face, to... well, we've all seen Wrecking Ball and heard of how JB peed on his fans at a concert due him being high on drugs and having pretty much no control over his actions. The bad boy/girl theme fits some people, like Pink, but how many of us actually imagined them turning out this way? Sure, maybe it was bound to happen eventually with media influence and all, but I didn't see One Direction or and of the Jonas bros changing that much.

Now, we've seen those local musicians that perform on the streets, in the train station, and even just outside shops. They're not there because they're any less talented than the popular artists we listen to. They're not there because they can't sing or dance like Usher and Chris Brown and MJ. They're not there because they can only replicate songs or remix songs using their own instruments. They're not there because they're broke. They're not there because they're shy. They're there because they aren't what most producers want. They're there because of one of two reasons. In the positive light, it's because they want not part in the crazy influence of the business. They want to sing for they're own reasons for the love and fun of it. Ghey don't want to be molded into something they're not, even if it will make them more popular. They have their own code; their own mind. And they stick to it. Now, in a more negative side, they are indisciplined. Sure, some managers are control freaks who want you to be what they want you to be, but some of them actually care and don't want you to messing up. But at the same time, some of these wannabe artists are pretty stubborn. Point being, they see the problems with the industry and instead of taking a chance of getting a reasonable manager, decide to stay on their own so people who appreciate them are people who appreciate the real them.

Then, there's the cults. Illuminati. Rock Nation. Music has turned into such a do-or-die affair that these cults have been set up to, pretty much, lure people from their faith, believing that joining them will make them successful. Jay Z entered my list of Top 10 artists when I heard Rock Boys. Then I heard about Rock Nation and was like, "NOPE!" I am not exactly superstitious. Do I believe in the power of the occult? Sure, somewhat. Do I feel it's stronger than my faith? Absolutely not. Would I rather make a deal with some other deity if it would bring faster results? Nope! Nothing good comes easy. "Drop your faith and everything you believe in, do what we say, and you'll be the most famous person on this side of the Milky Way." Bullshit! There's always a deeper catch, like losing your soul. And what good is it if a man gains the whole world, but loses his soul? I'm not saying it's easy, but either way, why should I need to do this to be famous? It's why I'm skeptical about going into music myself. I write songs in my spare time, like I have a notebook dedicated for just writing song lyrics, but I've never produced any (maybe I'll start up a garage band when I'm in university). If I go big, so be it. If I don't, it just wasn't meant to be. I'm skeptical, not a quitter. I'm not backing down just because I'm scared some other kind of higher power other than the one I worship threatens my success. But I'm not sure I really want to test what could bring me to drop my faith. It's why we have Indie rock bands.

Speaking of which, am I the only one who has noticed the rock music is pretty much the only genre that's remained pretty much the same for decades (electro/techno are relatively new, so not much could have really happened... Right?)? Hence, why my favorite artist are all in rock bands or are rock bands! Rock was my first love. On my way to school, I'd pop in Evanescence's Fallen into the CD player or my Walkman and listen to Bring Me to Life. As I grew, I got hooked to Linkin Park, Paramore, and Fall Out Boy, even Pink (although she's solo, not a band, but you know what I mean). I also gained an interest in older bands, like Queen and Slade. As far as I can see, not much has changed between these generations. The style and influence has been roughly the same. Why? Who knows? Maybe it's the lucky genre...:derpytongue2:

But hey, this is just my opinion. If I knew anything about the music industry, I'd have my own record label by now....... :pinkiegasp:!

Well, that's all folks. As you were. NOVA OUT!!!

I see your points and alot of them are good. But we still have songs that aren't related to weed and that stuff. Like waiting for love from avicci or..........Goddamn I can't think. Just I think you have a good point,

3352885 Yes. Avicci, Owl City, FOB, Paramore, Chris Brown and a reasonable number of others are still good. Even Eminem is moving away after his EP from 2013.

I just stay away from main music channels now. :twilightsheepish:

3353476 Meh. I just stick to the music I like.

Of course, you can always subscribe to Bart Baker on YouTube and check his channel regularly to see if any new parodies of the newest non-rock hits show up. He, like "Weird Al" Yankovic, is a lampooning machine!

3432935 I'll check that out at some point.
