Several thousand years ago…
Dazzleglow leapt under the overpass, her back ramming into the inside wall as a barrage of spark bursts pelted the ground where she’d just been, tracing towards her until the overpass blocked them. The unicorn tried to slow her heavy breathing and concentrate.
“Gabada ba,” shouted a voice from above, “gegigeba bi Kouma go Pinto go zogo gusu bodo ba zebirageba!” If only she could lock onto where the attacks were coming from. How could she stay out of reach while also being in sight? Wait, of course! Starglow’s power!
Dazzleglow stepped over to the center of the overpass and took a pose, right foreleg reaching down and over to the left to cross her left foreleg. Her horn started glowing a pale purple, akin to her coat color, and with a hum, a clear triangular shape expanded onto her forehead, solidifying into a silver tiara with a single upward spike at the center and bearing a clear, round stone bordered by four triangular tabs.
“Henshin!” Dazzleglow shouted, throwing her foreleg arcing up and over her head to point out to the right behind her, tracing the path of a shooting star. Her horn began glowing a deep blue, accompanies by the upper left tab and central stone. A pulsing noise started up, starting low but quickly rising in pitch, as a silvery-transparent coating expanded from her hooves up her limbs and over her body and head, solidifying into a black suit with blue armor plates, a silver patch over her muzzle, and large round blue eye covers, a surge of energy turning her mane and tail from blue and light pink streaks to all blue. The pulsing noise stopped at a peak, and her horn stopped glowing, leaving it and the tiara’s central stone and upper left tab the same deep blue color as her armor: a torso shell that extended down her back, shoulder pads that linked in a collar, a long plate on each upper and lower limb, and wrist and ankle bands.
She turned and crouched down before springing out from under the overpass. As her hooves hit the ground, she glided speedily along the ice streak trails they were generating, just as another barrage of spark burst began following her. She kicked in a boost of speed before pulling a 180, three hooves gliding her to a stop as she threw her right hoof in an arc over her, generating an archway of ice to block her from—there!
Hanging in the sky above her was a brown figure with large owl wings—a Gurongi calling itself Go-Buuro-Gu. It raised a tube to its beak-like mouth and blew, shooting a volley of darts at her, but they hit the ice arch, cracking it. This had to be fast.
Dazzleglow crossed her right foreleg over to her left again, and her horn started glowing pale purple, followed by the tiara’s upper right tab and central stone with a pulsing hum. The plates of her armor morphed to a different pattern and changed from blue to light purple, followed by her eye covers, mane, and tail.
Another volley of darts hit the ice arch, cracking it even more; it was about to give way. Dazzleglow’s horn split open into three, left and right sides fanning out while the center stayed in place. She jumped back as a third volley shattered the arch, and her open horn started glowing.
Dazzleglow let out a shout as her hooves hit the ground again. A crater was suddenly punched into the ground below the owl figure as he was knocked down in altitude.
Dazzleglow jumped again, the crater deepening when she hit the ground as Buuro was again seemingly hit from above by an invisible force. And again. The Gurongi struggled to recover and keep in the air. This was her chance.
Dazzleglow’s horn stopped glowing as she crouched down, spreading out her stance. A glowing light purple symbol of an umbrella, her cutie mark, appeared on the ground under her, and then began spinning, warping into a swirl pattern before separating into four swirls and being absorbed into her hooves.
She looked up at the Gurongi and jumped, her gravity powers giving her an extra boost up. She somersaulted forward, clear seismic waves beginning to radiate and trail from her back hooves. She kicked her legs up vertical, but by now, Buuro had recovered, and she saw him raise his blowgun to shoot another volley of darts at her. There was no way she’d be able to dodge those at this range—
Suddenly the stone in her tiara pulsed white. It began glowing brightly as streams of rainbow-fringed white light glided over Dazzleglow, her armor plates becoming iridescent, and the faint image of a pair of flowing white and rainbow wings fading into view. Buuro fired. Taking the chance, she twisted left to continue the strike, her right wing knocking the darts away. The seismic waves around her back hooves were joined by a white and rainbow glow faintly radiating stars, and, now in range, she kicked them down forward, hitting Buuro near the right shoulder with her right hoof with a white flash, then a second later near the left shoulder with her left and another flash.
Buuro fell from the sky as the wings and glowing faded from Dazzleglow and her armor, the Gurongi slamming into the ground as she landed on her hooves, her back hooves smoking from the power delivered through the hit.
Buuro started to struggle back to his knees, but a pair of glowing orange symbols appeared where Dazzleglow had kicked him, and he started writhing with pain.
“Rarobagu Zagibasu Gegeru ba,” he moaned as glowing yellow cracks began running across his body from the symbols, and Dazzleglow looked back at him, “badagidazi bi basiragu.” Buuro jumped up to his feet, and Dazzleglow leapt a foot away as he exclaimed, “Gabada ba gose go doresu bodo ba zebirageba!”
The yellow cracks reached Buuro’s belt buckle, a metal plate shaped into a jagged nasty-looking monster face, and he gave a cry as it split open and he exploded into a large fireball. Dazzleglow ducked her head down to avoid seeing it. She knew it was needed, but she still never like that part. She raised her head after she thought the sound had faded, but her ears were met by another explosion, and another. She turned back to see that flaming debris were flying into the air from the original explosion, each exploding in turn into another fireball with debris of its own, towering higher and higher into the sky in a veritable inferno. After no less than seven or eight rounds, it finally died down and the flames dissipated.
Dazzleglow stood and watched the last of it fade, steadily slowing her heavy breathing. These explosions were starting to get bigger, and that really had her worried. But that strange new power had surfaced during her attack again. If only she could control it, and focus it into a usable, more reliable form, it could really give her an edge.
