Big News for Doctor Who fans · 10:16pm Jan 22nd, 2016

Stephen Moffat's departure has been confirmed.

Series 10 will air in 2017--meaning Doctor Who is on a one-year hiatus--and will be Moffat's final series as showrunner. Chris Chibnall, creator of Broadchurch, is replacing him as of series 11.

Also--and this is old news--series 10 is Peter Capaldi's last round as the Doctor. No news on his replacement yet.

Rejoice, for Doctor Who may actually become watchable again in 2018!

I will miss Capaldi, he has been a great Doctor. Moffat however, yeah it's about time he left.

3705592 I was never big on Capaldi's Doctor. I never liked the color of his kidneys. Of course, a LOT of that is Moffat's fault.

3705603 Yeah, I do understand. The big problem for me has been the same with Matt Smith; a good Doctor, but just bogged down by mediocre stories.

I wasn't too keen on Capaldi. Not because he was old (in fact William Harnell the first doctor and Capaldi were both 55 when they started their respective seasons) but I found him a little slow compared to Baker, Tennant or Smith.

3705637 I agree with you. He was too slow. I thought that it wasn't that bad, but that is because I like Capaldi too much. The episodes could've been better, but the best I feel was the most recent Christmas Special.

I kind of liked a number of Moffat's 11 episodes

Nine actors who could play Doctor Who:
Tom Hiddleston
Paterson Joseph
Richard Ayoade
Robert Carlyle
Tilda Swinton
Ben Kingsley
Rupert Grint
Rowan Atkinson
Martin Freeman

Well it's been 10 years his been writing for Doctor Who; 5 has lead writer.

As for Capaldi, already? Well he did play the role for 3 years and it's pretty much the average time each actor played the role, but they seem to pass one after the other before we realise it.

3705684 Oh man, if Rupert Grint became the Doctor, I would actually have a reason to start watching the show!

3705856 Well, yeah. That happens EVERY time the showrunner and Doctor change. It's inevitable. But Moffat has a VERY low approval rating, so...we'll see.

I have enjoyed the 12th doctor's run in my own opinion. Some of his moments were pretty memorable, especially his anti-war speech in the zygon invasion. But to each their own.

3705603 Just how badly has Doctor Who declined? It sounds like it's been in a slump for quite a while.

3706346 The entire problem is Stephen Moffat. He's too full of himself, he makes all these grand plans that screw themselves right into the ground, and he's in love with the STUPID crap he dreams up with and doesn't seem to realize that the things that made his early episodes fan favorites are the kind of thing you do ONCE and don't ever touch again.

Don't get me started on how he ran River Song into the ground.

(Disclaimer: I stopped watching early in series 8 because I just couldn't take any more. Someone else will have to give you the particulars of how badly off the rails things have gone.)

Hahahaha! May be watchable again! I love that. And I'm glad Capaldi is leaving, I was never really keen on him. why couldn't Clara just leave as well but I also think Steven should go, I agree with everyone else in their opinion of him.

Rejoice, for Doctor Who may actually become watchable again in 2018!

*heavy gasp*
How dare you say that. I admit he isnt my favourite Doctor, but ... how dare you say that.

3973519 Because I am entitled to my opinion, and in my opinion, Doctor Who has been terrible for some time now?

And in case it wasn't clear, it isn't Capaldi's departure I'm rejoicing over. It's Moffat's. Although I don't think much of Capaldi as the Doctor either.

3973715 Oh, ok. I kinda just saw Capaldi, rejoice, watchable doctor who and got mad. And yes, sorry I kinda snapped. I just enjoy capaldi and have already started to get emotional when he announced him leaving

3973722 Yeah, you should maybe read the entire blog post before you snap and get mad at someone.

Especially the part where the blog post you're replying to is several months old. :rainbowwild:
